First compost harvest

Just about one year after starting my compost I harvest. Its really amazing how it all settles down. My 1 yard bin was totally full at least 3 times I can remember. I ended up getting something like 12 cubic feet of finished compost.

I just loaded it on top of the remains of the garden crushing some dying radishes, beans and spinich. Then sowed the winter rye on top. Its not real pretty right now but I'm not too worried.

The "new" pile is totally full. I'm going to keep adding to it until the end of the month then turn it into the bin I just emptied and start the "new new" pile in the open bin. With luck this pile should be done by the time I plant in spring but if it isn't its no big deal.

Last week we enlarged the garden to nearly double what it was before and to keep cats from peeing in the mulch pathway (stupid cats) I pulled all the much and am making it a brick path instead. We had the bricks hanging around so its a no materials cost upgrade (yay!).

Hope everybody is having as much fun as me!
