Algoflash is 1 capful per gallon of water.
Use the lid from the Algoflash.

Not sure about Super Thrive, never used it.

If your planting new roses I would wait awhile after planting before applying any fertilizers.
We have clay soil here that hold nutrients well, so I do NOT even fertilize roses there first year.

SuperThrive is great. It is used with your fertilizing schedule. 1/4 TEASPOON per gallon. It has vitamins and hormones. It is also used for bare root planting, soak for 15-30 minutes 1-1/2 TEASPOONS per five gallons for roses. It takes very little of the product. Even the big box stores carry it.

I just finished a bottle of Algoflash, I won't buy another. I'll stick with Neptune's Harvest Seaweed Preparation or Response, which I apply with my fungicide spray.

SuperThrive always sounded like souped-up alfalfa tea to me...

I use the cap on my Super Thrive. One cap full per gallon of water. I really do think it helps! I've never heard of Algoflash. I'll have to look that one up. I do use the Spray n Grow products and like those very much.

By the way for those of you who don't know of Suzanne Verrier she authored rose books, Rosa Rugosa and Rosa Gallica and has a farm in in Maine that raises roses and vegetables for the local area. Also soup and sandwiches for lunch.

She has several mature (big) roses growing two of Lillian Gibson a very hardy climber by Hansen. I can't seem to find my book that talks about hardy roses but I think he was with the USDA or a University and hybridized roses in the late '30's. LG ia a hybrid Rugosa Blanda

Love SuperThrive! And yes, it takes very little! I always soak my roses or other plants in a few drops of ST in a gallon of water before planting, even the potted ones! I just dunk the whole pot in there and let it sit for an hour or so to rehydrate the plants.
I've never had transplant shock since I started using it. I dont' know if it's the ST or not, but what a hey, if it works?!

I googled Super Thrive and couldn't find any real info on it. Vitamin B for roses?, sounds a bit odd. However I don't mind the unusual stuff, as long as it works. Is it worth paying p&p from US to Europe?

I use pure seaweed, mostly water soluble, like extract or very fine powder form. It shows up in the roses very noticeably sometimes. I am all organic so I have to fuzz a bit to get optimal results. I often water new planted roses (at least the ones in pots with leaves on) with liquid seaweed solution or some kind of organic stuff. It seems to give the plants a bit more energy almost over night.

I've used Algoflash for quite a few years and am pleased with it, but cant really compare it to others. I use several formulas, Rose, Tomato, Flower, Houseplants and Orchids.....Lasts a long time and is easy to use. They have their own website, but I sometimes buy it from Park Seed as the shipping is cheaper and there is no minimum....

No offense, I hope: Super Thrive has been around for decades and there is no reliable evidence that it does anything except promote the rooting of cuttings, which it does because it contains the same ingredient as Rootone, though at greater expense. The value of added Vitamin B has been disproved in scientific trials subsequent to one early, badly designed experiment that showed positive results.

People may say it works because they used it and their plants grew. But we can't learn anything unless there is a control group of identical plants treated identically except for the use of Super Thrive or not. And you need two good-sized groups of plants to run a test that means something. You can find reports on the web where amateurs have done experiments with fairly reasonable controls and gotten negative results for ST (except for rooting cuttings).

Gee, I don't use either one, but my roses grow and bloom eagerly each spring. I figure RoseTone, manure, sun, and water (maybe a little fungicide occasionally, or alfalfa pellets once in a while) covers all their basic needs. : )

Yeah, there is SuperThrive, but what about Willard Water? Anybody use Willard Water? Some folks swear by it . . .

I'm an estate gardener and I've used Superthrive regularly for the past 7 years and I've finally concluded that the stuff is a bunch of muck and mysticism. Ditto for Messenger and Response. IMHO, AlgoFlash is just another overpriced fertilizer. I used it back in 2001 and again in 2009-10 and I didn't see anything exceptional about the results.

As for seaweed...I use it too. I use it as a drench and also as a foliar treatment. Still, I'm seeing a lot of heat stress on our rose leaves-- and Those roses are watered every 2 to 3 days and on hot days, I turn on the overhead sprinklers for a few minutes to cool the foliage.

A Siphonject or Sifonex fertilizer siphon can make the drench less laborious than carrying buckets of water to each bush.

For speedy spraying, I use the Gilmour Professional hose, end sprayer.

Ah the mysteries of plant growth! What works and doesn't work. I all comes down to what you have faith in. Like the Tooth Fairy. No doubt some scientific proof there somewhere but that would take some searching. So for the moment I�m going to go with this stuff.

My own conundrum has to do with a Karl Forster transplanted from a spot where it was 1 foot tall and never bloomed to a spot where it was transformed into a 6x6�monster covered with flowers. WHY? Who knows!

Lol, Jim, I've done that same thing! And then once it's there and doing so well you hate to move it to the back because you KNOW it's not going to preform as well. So Angel Face is still a big monster in the front border over shadowing everything behind her.

LOL, we do try all the strangest stuff, but somethings are better than others.

I had a similar experience this year too. I planted 12 small roses in a bed, the kind they sell in grocery stores and all kinds of places, in pots and in full bloom. I planted them in groups of three, sort of in a triangle with one in front and two in the back. In all four groups the larges plant is in the front. It's like the one in front get all the energy some how. They do get enough sun all of them really, and the same amount of fertilizer. A bit weird.

I guess I should clarify I only use Algoflash on my potted roses and potted plants. The ones in the ground get Mills Magic Mix and Rosetone........
