Will fresh stump grindings kill my other trees?
Comments (8)High carbon material such as wood chips laid on the soil as mulches do not "rob" the soil of nutrients. Dr. Alex Shigo, when he was chief of research for the U. S. Forest Service, found that wood chip mulches were necessary in the forest to maintain the fungal dominant environment trees need to grow healthy. Wood chips incorporated into the soil can, temporarily, tie up Nitrogen since the Soil Food Web will concentrate on digesting them instead of feeding the plants. Here is a link that might be useful: wood chip mulches...See MoreFree Tree Cutting & Stump Grinding
Comments (4)Our power company has a different tree service and they came here last spring to show me which trees they were going to trim. Two of them were cedars so I just asked them to take them down. The power company guy seemed anxious to remove those but not the others. About 4 months later the company showed up to take them down. They had plenty of equipment and plenty of manpower but it took days for them to get the job done. I asked for chips too, but didn't get any. One of the neighbors burned part of the limbs that they had left in his yard but I had to call them back a week or two later to pick up the limbs. A neighbor's father took the cedar tree trunks so it was just limbs. I guess they were just going to leave them there. I did get my trees cut for free, but it was not a trouble free process. Their power line runs right through the center of the other trees, but they didn't take them down. The line lies in the fork of the tree. I hope you have better luck....See MoreCutting down tree and leaving the stump ...
