Comments (10)Beautiful, Jeri! Those sure look like the blooms I have on my “Not Louise Odier-maybe Grandmother’s Hat” I always look forward to seeing photos of Grandmother’s Hat, so I can compare them to my rose. My rose does so well, that it almost HAS to be Grandmother’s Hat. Like your true Grandmother’s Hat, it’s fine despite the awful heatwave we just had. I didn’t prune mine at all this year. I left most of the OGR’s alone, and was extremely grateful that I could do so without a problem. Mine has occasionally lost the entire first flush to balling. One pleasant side affect to the sudden dry heat (90’s), was that all the buds opened just fine. It’s that cool nighttime fog that can cause them to ball. This time the heatwave hit at the perfect time for my “Not LO-maybe GH. They all opened perfectly. Thanks for all your wonderful pictures, Jeri. I may not always comment, but I do ALWAYS enjoy them. Comments (14)My memory being what it is now (awful) a guess would be about two months. Oh wait, I think it's closer to five weeks. I admit, that's not terribly long but I've given it two kinds of organic fertilizer (in small quantities) and have watered it a lot, lately several times a day and before it got so hot once a day. It did develop two microscopic buds, one of which a squirrel snaffled, and the second one is still there measuring less than a centimeter. Am I being a crazy woman for thinking it should be bigger? (No need to answer that.) One of the very skinny little canes has grown probably six inches and developed the tiny bud, so maybe I'm being a little unrealistic in thinking it should have done more. The poor thing is probably traumatized from being watched so obsessively. Edited:: I just saw an old post where I found that I'd grown GH fifteen years ago. Apparently I lied when I said I hadn't seen flowers, but I suspicion that they crisped so quickly that the memory didn't linger. I hope to do a lot better this time. However, the memory has surfaced now that at that time it took off like gangbusters. I had practically virgin soil then because the previous owners had grown nothing but grass. All the roses I first planted grew huge and bloomed like crazy. Alas, it's different now....See More'Tina Marie' and "Grandmother's Hat".
Comments (4)It will be at least another month before my GH blooms. Your pic is making me impatient, lol. I still need to get Tina Marie. If she's as robust as GH, she'll do well here. Before I moved GH to the top of a retaining wall, she suffered from fairly severe blackspot, but now that she has the best airflow in the yard, she does very well, indeed. Which reminds me, I need to start another GH somewhere else, because where there's airflow, there are also mites, which means possible RRD. My project this year is to make sure I have duplicates of the favorites, the rare, and the unicorns....See More- 14 years ago
