Has anyone ever done this?

I couldn't take the mess anymore and decided to "tidy" up one of my perennial beds - about 6' by 30'; started by digging up all the mounds of lamb's ear, followed by the spreading evening primrose, next was the lemon balm that migrated its way in, and finally, the giganto clumps of tiger lilies I naively planted after a neighbor gave them to me as freebees 5 years ago. Now just what I want is left and the bed looks so neat and tidy. So, have you ever revamped an established bed you weren't happy with? What plants were your big mistakes and had to go?
