Funny story for all to enjoy - short but worth a giggle!

I just had to share this story.

My fiance is a delivery driver for Meals on Wheels, so he ends up stopping at Big Lots and a lot of the dollar stores during the day for a snack or just a break to stretch his legs a bit.

Sooooooo, I sent him a text message from work this morning asking if he'd noticed seeds at any of those places lately. I patiently waited thinking it would take him a bit to respond.

But no! I got an immediate response! And the response I got?????

"No more seeds! Go to a meeting!"

LOL, I started laughing outloud, so everyone around me wanted to know what was so funny. After telling them, I heard the ever familiar words....."ever think of a 12 step program for seed addiction, Diana?"

If only they knew that a 12-step program wouldn't cure this addiction! I guess I'll have to keep my seed shopping expereiences for GW only now, huh!?!

oh, but it does...if you park close enough, it's 12 steps into any retailer to get a fix and cure it (til the next time you're in withdrawal)

LOL!!! I've lost count of how many times my husband has told me I need a 12 step program. I think he's just jealous because he can't do his hobby, dirtbike riding, during the winter with all of the snow on the ground, and my hobby is year round!

don't be sad, you didn't know any better. An animal like a cat or a dog needs meat- plan and simnple, its common sense. no grains, no fillers,ect. thats what killed your cats, grain, and mold, and all the other awful stuff that goes into most pet foods. you were ignorent, and people can get away with alot in this day and age when they say they just "didnt know" i remember hearing a story about a low income mom that couldnt buy powdered baby milk, so to save money she stretched the mix and made it so thin and watery the baby almost died, they saved the baby but it had brain damage.. and because she was "ignorent" brain damaged baby gets returned to the bad,suitation and momma get parenting classes. why she ever got pregnant and had a kid,is beyond me, just shows IMHO how stupid and selfish people are these days. Anyway back to the point. There are many natural pet food forums, like holisticat.com that would probably take in your cat/kitten, if thats what you want to do. if you keep the kitten/cat and wish to aviod grain based issues, you are going to need to feed something like Innova EVO, Orijen, Ziwi peak, this should run you about as much as vet food. vets crank up the costs, of food because they are in it for $$. or if they are not the people who make and sell them the food are, to a vet it makes perfect sense $$ wise to get people buying garage brands, then they not only get kickbacks from the food corps, but also money from frustrated owners, like yourself who suddenly have dental issues, or UTI, kidney issues.or cancers that the animals get after eating so poorly.

I hadn't noticed the date ... and thought, "Seems to me that I've heard that story before" ... I had the reply figured/remembered before it came. But still enjoyed it. When I think of how many times some people say that it's not a good idea to bring old stories back to life ... think of how many smiles (and slopped on computer screen) would have been missed today if this one hadn't been. Thank you everyone for all your support. I am very happy to have spent the time asking the question. There are lots of titles listed that I completely overlooked and many that I will have to look into. My mom lives in the philippines and is old fashioned. She spent lots of time teaching and helping others as a social worker so maybe those 20th century country tales so I appreciate your suggestions Liz and Yoyobon. Thank you Ccrdmrbks. I am trying to relate to how my mom is feeling right now but I can't imagine it. We just celebrated my eldest sister's marriage last week so I think her emotions must be quite a mixture as well. Miss Read sounds promising. A friend highly reccomended Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe a long time back simply as a read to enjoy but I haven't gotten around to it. Anyone know if it would be appropriate for the situation? Comedy is an interesting idea. Though it may be hard to find something she relates to. I'll ask her and see if she has any favourites. I love the ws forum. Often find myself laughing out loud, good for one's health, I understand.

Your story is so funny. We should call our seeds a collection. People don't think it is odd when one adds a new item to a collection. Okay, maybe some collections do get a raised eyebrow, like the toaster collection that is so numerous that the collector has them in a seperate house/building.

One good thing about a seed collection is that some of the seeds get sown so one has find new seeds to add to the collection.

I rather like your 12 step program, Mary. Do you mind if I use that line?

LOL I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one. I was thinking of trying to curb my habit, but now that I know I'm in good company, I'm going to continue to indulge!

Being a stay at home mom, I called a meeting today at HD. I need irrigation supplies to expand the veggie garden. Told my VP she could pick out a flower packet. Well, we've held so many recent meetings there, they didn't yet have any new flower packets that I "must have", read worth the eye brow raising from DH. My 1yo pitched a HUGE fit and we had to leave the store. Addicting AND contagious.

step one-look through pretty catalogs
step two-make a list-no several, of seeds you want
step three-get on GW and check everyones HAVE lists
step four-start trading for things on your want list
step five-make another list of what you still need
step six-make a list of who you traded with

Crap! this will take more than 12 steps! I haven't even got to the collecting of containers, driving all over town to find good potting soil, etc etc etc Or storage jeez!

Saw a t-shirt once that said...."He who dies with the most seeds wins"!

Still wish I would have bought it, but was too broke from buying seeds!

mmq - I never thought about it like that and I'm definitely going to use that to feed my addiction!

High - you're probably right! Looks like your hubby needs to find a new hobby!

Edit - no curbing of the seeds addiction! ALWAYS visit us here at GW when you feel the urge to cut back!

Austin - way to go! Start those little addicts when they are young!

Seedmama - that is hilarious! Too bad my fiance is thin or I could use that one on him!

Brandy - I really like the start of your 12 step program! We could always change it to a 101 step program! I saw that bat on your member page - too cool! I've been wanting to get a bat house myself to help with insects.

April50 - I have got to find a way to have one of those shirts!

I had a feeling you all would get a kick out of that story and I'm sure we all have a slew of them left to share!

LOl - funny story...

The thing about the seeds is that they are sooooo small and so we have soooo much space to keep adding to the collection (and we can hide them too..). I love this addiction!

I don't know about all of you but my habit is way too much fun to stop playing in the dirt.
Also my playing in the dirt stuff has gotten to be so much that it takes up a lot of space. Good thing I'm not married, or I'm sure I would hear about the garden supplies in the garage. lol
