Black Baccara is beautiful, isn't it! It's a modern hybrid tea and many/most HTs do need some spraying to stay healthy. More or less, depending on where you live. I don't recall hearing that Black Baccara is one of the easier ones, so you might want to ask about what would be a better starter rose for you in your area.

On the other hand, some people take to spraying and gardening with great ease and have no trouble starting with modern HTs. You could be one of them. :)

Your 16" container will be OK for a while. How big is the bush in front of your grandmother's house? Unless it is quite small, say no bigger than 3' wide and 3' tall, my guess is that your peach beauty will eventually want a bigger pot, or the ground.

I'm a relative beginner, so probably if anyone comes along and disagrees with anything I wrote, you should listen to them!

I have Black Bacarra, and I've been pleased with it's performance so far. It's had some trouble with black spot, but it's rained here for weeks straight, so it's hard give a fair assesment. The blooms were very close to true black in the spring, but they became more and more crimson as the days got hotter. However, with the rain this last month has come cooler days, and a color approaching black again. I'm hoping that in the fall the rose will look like it did when it first bloomed. This rose might do even better in your zone, as it stays so hot around here for so long. Good luck.

The hybrid tea class of roses, of which Black Baccara is one, is prone to leaf spot diseases here in balmy NJ. Most notably blackspot. If you are willing to treat your plant regularly with a fungicide (there are a few available), then you'll be able to grow BB here with little problem.

Nickelsmumz,the bush in front of the house is pretty big. My mother cut it way back almost every year except the last two. I would say that it's at least 8 or 9 years old, probably older.

As far as containers, I am not sure if we can grow roses here where I live (I live in a townhome). I think that it would probably be a problem with the association being as strict as it is. That's why I was wondering what kind of a container I could use/what size, etc.

There's something that I have done when overwintering peppers but I don't know if it would work with roses. We pull the potted plants every year and trim not only the top but also trim the roots way back, leaving about 6-8 inches above and below the soil line. Would that work with roses or no such luck?

Don't do that with roses. I grow roses in all sizes of pots, so it can be done. If you question hardiness, you can place the pot next to a west-facing wall (if you have one) during the winter, or surround the pots with bags filled with leaves for insulation.
