Sammy, I'm in the same boat. I'm making a list of thrips magnets that are gonna go in the fall. The thrips have been the worse I've ever seen this year. I've refrained from spraying but it I'd like to nuke the suckers. Unlike your DdB, mine hasn't had a decent bloom all season, still pondering this one.
Ones that don't seem to be attractive to thrips are SdlM, Kronprinzessin Viktoria, Capitaine Dyel de Graville, SdlM Rouge and Cl. Pinkie. Teas include, Gilbert Nabonnand, Monsieur Tillier, Madame Antoine Mari, Georgetown Tea and Rainbow. Blush Noisette Natchitoches Noisette and Champneys' Pink Cluster have been fine also while Crepuscule had a great first flush the subsequent blooms are eaten up.
I've never seen thrips damage on Quietness but Prairie Star is awful. Although the huge blooms are beautiful on Prairie Star in late fall the wait just isn't worth it, it's outta here. Randy says his Gruss an Aachen and Pink Gruss have been thrips ridden but mine haven't. I don't know why the same roses in different areas have different results.

Are Capitaine Dyel de Graville and SDLM Rouge once bloomers? I used to have Kronprincessin Viktoria, and I will put that on my list. Actually Souvenir de St. Annes is fine too.

Are Blush Noisette and Champneys' Pink Cluster also once bloomers?

My Caldwell Pinks seem fine also.

Sammy, CDdG and SdlM Rouge are both sports of Souvenir de la Malmaison and bloom about the same, continuously here.
Blush Noisette and Champneys' Pink Cluster both bloom in flushes all season.
My Caldwell Pink is probably the healthiest rose in my garden, no problems at all.

I can say that in my garden:
Carefree Beauty has never become a pretty shrub and I plan to remove it.
Martha Gonzales is nice, but I think I can find something I like better.
My DdB is wonderful...no thrip damage at all
My Blush noisette blooms year round for me.
Caldwell Pink is healthy and repeats frequently for me.
Cl. Pinkie has become a good repeater as it has matured. The blooms are small and faded in the heat of the summer, but overall it's a great rose here.
Quietness has had no problems and I love this rose
Prairie Star has been slow to grow and is not vigorous, but I'm giving it another year.
My healthiest, most pest-free rose that repeats wonderfully and smells great is my Nur Mahal!

I agree that Quietness and the SdlM clan are relatively resistant to thrips. Kronprinzessin Viktoria is the cleanest double white rose I've grown-- resistant to Botrytis as well as thrips. You could also look at singles and semi-doubles, such as Kathleen.

I have no thrips and not much in the way of disease, but heat is the enemy here, and most of my roses are showing signs of stress. Duchesse de Brabant is looking poorly, almost no flowers and yellowing leaves and not many of them. Ditto with too many others to name. I've ordered Caldwell Pink and am glad to see it seems to be a good rose. Best performers in my dry heat are Le Vesuve, Blumenschmidt, Souvenir d'un Ami, Bishop's Castle, Carding Mill, Single Cerise China, Aunt Margy, Burgundy Iceberg and Blue Mist.

It's interesting how different roses perform in different gardens. My Carefree Beauty is my BEST performing rose without any question. She is a beautiully shaped (large-5X5) shrub that is constantly blooming or getting ready to bloom in complete flushes. She would grow to 8X8 if I let her. She has less than 1% yellow or spotted leaves at any given time. She has never, ever had one thrip to damage a single bloom! When I quit deadheading, she will set hundreds of hips. This past spring, her blooms were 4-6 inches across with those gorgeous yellow stamens. The blooms are similar to a camellia's blooms. Now they are 2 inches in summer heat. Mine came from Chamblee's and is 8 yrs. old. I never spray anything on my roses. Buff

Oldblush, I made a list of those sports, and intend to get them - at least Kronprincessin Viktoria.

Jardineratx, Prairie Star was my favorite rose when I sprayed. I had about 6 or 7 of them in a circle around my front bed. However, they and Distant Drums went when I stopped spraying. Quietness is a jewel.

Michael, I think Kathleen is one of the Bermuda roses? I am looking into all of them. I have been very happy with Spice and Carnation.

Ingrid, it is surprising that you can grow so many Austin roses when you have such black spot problems.Cottage Rose is a huge success for me. Lilian Austin is pretty good, but the rest that I have tried have not made the cut. I have put Le Vesuve on my list. I used to have it on my list, but I think some rosarians have been quite critical of it, so I dropped it.

Buffington, my Carefree Beauties are 2 years old. Maybe next year they will be better. Do you remember how long it took yours to get going? Mine are from Chamblees also.

I agree with buffington22....Carefree Beauty is one of the top performing shrubs in my garden. Mine is a nice, rounded shrub probably about 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 and about 3-4 years old. No thrips, no BS, no spray! I would actually like a hedge of this one. But I would not call this one a light colored pink and maybe that's why the thrips don't bother it.

I've stated before that Caldwell Pink is probably my top performing shrub rose. Same characteristics as Carefree Beauty.

Neither SDLM nor Duchesse de Brabant seem to be bothered by thrips in my yard either - yay!

Another one that doesn't seem to attract thrips is Marquise Bocella. This one is new for me this year so it's a little early to tell but I am hopeful!

Every once in a while, I'll get some blooms on roses (that are always ruined by thrips) which somehow escape their attention and it is always frustrating because then you can see what it would be like if you didn't have the thrip problem and your blooms looked like they are supposed to.

Mrs. Joseph Schwarz doesn't have thrips problems for me; since Duchesse de B does well for you, maybe MJS would also. Quietness doesn't either.

That Viru tea, Faith Whittlesey has not had any thrips problems either, so far.

Of the ones you're getting rid of, I've gotten rid of Pink Gruss also. I have Maman Cochet, but it has been so slow to grow here and has bloomed very little. I'm just giving it another year or two to see what happens. Niles Cochet is really slow also.

Sammy, I think I remember you said that your Marie van Houtte is a thrip magnet, but it doesn't have those problems here.

Do you have General Gallieni? That one never has any problems of any kind here, except the japanese beetles really liked it.

I'm really beginning to believe my Carefree Beauty is simply a dud! I'm considering replacing it with another one. The one I have now is several years old and was grown from a cutting given to me. This time I think I will pick one up from A.R.E. This rose has a great reputation and I'm afraid I'm missing out on a good thing.

Sammy and everybody, in my yard DdB is the one most plagued by thrips. Like Hamp, I didn't see proper blooms on her until last month but there were still damaged flowers on the bush. Now I'm really thinking of replacing her, and it's sad because I've waited two and a half years for her to attain a not-ugly shape, and she's finally looking good. But what's the point if she's a thrips magnet - 2 years in a row.

Climbing Maman Cochet had a lot of damage early on (March & April) but then wasn't really bothered. I don't remember the bush having thrips.

Can't categorize Blumenschmidt, Souv d'Elise Vardon or Souv de Pierre Notting yet or Jaune Desprez.

LeVesuve is an excellent rose for high heat but quite tender with freezing temps at least while young. Perfect rose in my yard.

Sammy, there is a 'Bermuda's Kathleen,' but I was speaking of 'Kathleen' the Pemberton HMusk. It is single, white, and vigorous, with wafting fragrance. I think it would be no-spray for you. It has a very wide, low-arching, leafy habit and is cane-hardy to below zero.

Mine, grafted and virused, declined after 20 years, but I really enjoyed it. I don't know whether it is available without virus.

THanks Duchesse. My Mrs. Joseph Schwartz was not very pretty, and seldom had good blooms. I do like Quietness too. It is one of my prettiest roses. Marie is ok, but she is a very light pink. I am going to look up the General.

Michael, I looked up Kathleen and Bermuda Kathleen. Now I remember why I did not want Bermuda Kathleen.It is not too pretty to me, and I have many whites or light roses. Kathleen looks very much like Penelope, and I have 5 of her already.

Sammy, Another light colored rose I have that hasn't had thrips problems here is Angels Camp Tea. Also white cecile brunner. Little to no bs problems, also, here.

General Gallieni is a dark red, though - sorry I mentioned it since you were just asking for light colors. It is a wonderful rose, though.
