Hi CK,
I checked FC2 and the AVSA photo site for both hybrids and came up with zip also. I also followed a link to ebay but it was too old to show anything.
The plantlet looks like a single plant in a pot rather than a group of little planatlets. I would remove it from the pot, take off any secondary leaves and pot it in a smaller pot. The rule of thumb is to pot a plant in a pot which is 1/3 the size of the crown.

Belinda - sorry to take this thread slightly off-topic, but I noticed that some of the perlite in your pot is turning green, which is happening in some of my pots as well. Do you have any idea what causes this, or does anyone else? I'm glad you posted that pic - seeing that someone else has had this happen makes me think it's probably not something I should be concerned about. Thank you!

It is algae growing, nothing to be concerned about. Remove just a bit of the soil from a top and put a fresh one. Since this little plant needs to be potted down to a much smaller pot - that's can be done at the time of the repottng.

Violetta - if you repot your violets every 6 months/ 4months for minis (yeah right - I am always late) - then we avoid a lot of problems - long necks, fertilizer salts accumulation, too acid or too alkaline soil, undiscovered pests (God forbid) - and this unsightly algae can be kept in check more or less.

Thanks Fred for checking on FC2 for me and looking around. I did find that link to ebay, but as you said it was old and removed.

As for my Baby Moonbeams, the photo was very deceiving I think. The pot it was in was a little 2 oz. pill cup. Well I did the separating and guess what? Can you believe there was 3 babies in there? I repotted them each into the top of a hair spray pump bottle if that gives you any indication of size. I couldn't find anything else small enough.

Thanks for the explanation on the algae Irina. I knew it didn't hurt and I would be repotting soon. So all clear now. Just hope my itty bitty babies survive.

I've got a Baby Moonbeam the same size as yours. I can see now I've got it in too big a pot, even though it is a 2 oz. medicine cup! I think you should be able to get some creamer cups from your local minimart or 7-11, where ever you can buy coffee. I'm going to go down the street to our local am-pm and see if I can get some, even if I buy some coffee to get them! Good luck with your babies, I can't wait until mine blooms!

If you go to Costco or Sam's Club, you can buy a box of creamer in the cups. and just recycle them. I have never looked for them in the dairy at the supermarket. I don't know of a source to purchase that size cup empty.
Tell all your friends to save your the cups the next time they have coffee out. A friend of mine saved some from work, and gave them to me in a clear plastic egg carton. I haven't used them yet, but it will make a great humidity dome when I do. Also, for something a little bit bigger, you may be able to get a sleeve of 1 ounce medicine dose cups at your pharmacy. I got a sleeve of 100 for a buck - a penny apiece.
I bet after a week you'll have more creamers than you can use. Just make sure you clean them out soon, or that sour milk smell will knock you over!! LOL, been there, did that...

Thanks Barbara that's a great idea. I'll check with my local pharmacy also. I have lots of mini babies that will need potting up within the next month or so. :)

Tracy I use an eye dropper, but being closed up they don't dry out as fast.

Ask the pharmacist if they have a child's medicine dropper. They give them away at my Rx. A little bigger than an eyedropper. A meat baster also works pretty well if you can find one with a smaller hole, it just holds a lot more.

You can get those plastic 1 oz solo cups (also known as souffle or jello shot cups) online at a lot of restaurant supply company web sites, too.

If you want something that will hold more water when u are wetting down your little cups, go the the local drug store and pick up a rubber ear syringe. It has a large bulb and a fine tip. I use one when I take plants to show and water them there on the tables so they don't dry out.

Thanks for the great ideas violetta and Fred. I checked yesterday at the pharmacy here and they wouldn't sell me any 1oz. medicine cups. So i'll check the online resources and see what I can come up with. I have tons of mini leaves down and will need some tiny pots soon!

One year I purchased these tiny plastic shotglasses, the disposable kind like the beer or beverage cups. They were supposed to hold the dip for the veggies and dip tray I made for my child's kindergarten class, then I thought I wanted to keep them for some other use and asked the manager at the local McD's for the paper ketchup cups. I used my glue gun to melt a hole in the bottom for drainage. The hole is not flush with the bottom, so to make sure there isn't excess water in the little pot when I've watered them, I use my kitchen towel that is on it's way to the laundry and press against the drain hole to wick away the extra water. What I like about these plastic shotglasses is that they are see through, and I can see the little roots developing, and it helps me judge by the colour of the soil (and weightlessness of the little container) as to whether I give more water. I also have 2 little mini's in the plastic caps of my hair mousse dispensers. They already have a teeny tiny hole in them, and it drains well to, but I used a needle to place a 2nd hole in them, just in case.

Well I bought some 1oz. clear plastic shot cups at a party supply store on Sat. They are so cute and will make nice pots for my babies. Not a bad price $2.99 for 50. The creamer cups would be smaller and better but i'll make do wtih these for now.
