Some August garden pics

Nothing too exciting going on, but did snap a few pics, thought I'd share.

"Brandy Punch" hibiscus with "Uproar Rose" zinnia:

"Limelight" hydrangea standard with echinacea:

Chasmanthium in the forefront with "Porcupine" dwarf zebra grass in the background - not sure why no one seems to mention Chasmanthium but is a great grass and tolerates dry shade well once established:

Guess my pooch doesn't feel like having her picture taken today, she wouldn't look at the camera :0)

August is the most colourful month in my garden. Everything is blooming like crazy.

Hi everyone, Thanks for commenting on the pics--I really appreciate it and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Aren't those zinnias great? They're virtually foolproof for summer color as long as they get occasional water (but like I said, I do head out of town a lot even in summer and they have to survive w/o automatic irrigatin). Let's see...since these pics do not show my Tree of Shame (which now has twenty one baskets it in), I can reply with what's hanging in the tree in pic #2. Thanks for asking...there are three pots of cascading vinca ('Mediterranean Apricot Broadeye' which I started from seeds from Park Seed Co...it cascades wonderfully), there's a pot with one of the "mule's ears" kalanchoes (Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri), a lantana (I stand firm as a fan of them, lol), a blue flowering puya (Puya berteroniana that I also grew from seed (what can I say? I'm cheap!)), and if you look closely, at the left, you can see some spaghetti-like stems dangling in the air...that pot is actually hung so high (16 feet) that you can't see it, but it's full of Rapunzel plant, Sarcostemma viminale which almost touches the ground now (I had to hang it by standing on a very tall ladder and I have to arc water up to its pot with the hose once a week), and finally, the dark bronze-purple plant does indeed look like purple hearts from this distance, but it's my new favorite ornamental sweet potato 'Sweet Caroline Bronze' which stays compact and makes great bronzey-burgundy leaves which emerge a golden chartreuse, AND it loves full sun. I know, I know...more than you wanted to know, but hey, you asked. :) Now, just don't make me list what's hanging in the Tree of Shame...that would take all day. :P Take care and thanks again for commenting, Grant Here is a link that might be useful: Mediterranean Apricot Broadeye from Park Seed

Lynne, the weather has been fairly cool here with a few days of heat mixed in. At least I am not the only one. [g] This has been my first try at starting them from seed and not buying them. I am not impressed at this point..lol. I would think I am only a couple of weeks away from when I would normally buy them already full grown. It is perplexing to me. Well...since you are having the same result and think it is due to high temps, maybe mine have not been as low as they needed either. I am going to put them in the ground this weekend and see what happens. Thanks Lynne :-) Sorry vera... [g]...didn't mean to hijack your thread...I couldn't help it. Laurie, my yellow Daturas look the same as yours, they're called Datura metel Triple Yellow from JL Hudson. Marcia, save seed from your Double Purple if you can, I tried sowing some 'Blackcurrant Swirl' last Feb with no success ;) I don't do anything special with the Garden Mums, other than don't let them dry out, they have shallow roots and need constant moisture. Mulch and compost good around the plants and divide every 3 years. Two new ones that I purchased eary this spring are called Morden Firestorm and Tigertail, not much of a show this year but I expect them to be grand next year. Yeah I know they just had to fuss and reclassify the name to Dendranthemum, but to me Chrysanthemums will always be Chrysanthemums in my garden ;) Sharon

pinkdaisy - I, too, have searched for it. Then I did a little search here in the forum... for a little more info on GP. I found a thread where Ken and others discussed the confusion between GP and Little Aurora: thread So, they may not be the same... or maybe they are... I have no idea. But Little Aurora certainly looks like it. And, I found that it is available near me at Made in the Shade. So, I may have to add one. FWIW.

Great photos, both mxk and wieslaw! Wonderful color.

I'm wondering about the limelight hydrangea - is it planted in full sun or mostly shade? I want to put one in full sun, but first I want to make sure it will be okay there.

The Limelight is in full sun. The paniculata-type hydrangeas perform best in full sun, no worries there. :0)

Michele - nobody mentions Chasmanthium much because it has a bad
habit of seeding all over the place. . .I have one thriving in dry shade - maybe
the dryness reduces seed proliferation - that looks just great. But there's
another Northern Sea Oats planted in full sun - in very good soil - which
just dropped seeds by the hundreds; I'm STILL pulling them up, six months
after removing the original plant ! Of course, it's the handsome seed heads
we're growing it for, so "dead-heading" is kind of out of the question.
Tough choice. . .

I have bought if from France with a name Flameburst. It was listed as very late, but this year it started together with all the rest.It is actually more beautiful in real life than on the picture. The other daylily is Land of Cotton.

So very pretty! I wish I could turn my entire yard into on big flowerbed (actually, I'm slowly working on it). I love that massed, full look.

My land is 859 m2 including the house, the greenhouse, the chicken house and the garden shed. I'm near the city of Holstebro in West Jutland. I'm theoretically in zone 6-7, but I can only keep plants that are hardy to zone 5 in the US(very little or no snow cover). I have been gardening here for 20 years, but my garden is changing all the time, because I'm moving the plants very often to check what is working and what is not working. Tak for din kompliment.

Very easily. This is Eryngium 'Forncett Ultra' from England. The best of the whole bunch in my opinion. Reliably perennial. After many years it can send short runners.

AdamKR, it is Ligularia dentata Britt-Marie Crawford. If I remember correctly it was a sport on Othello. It needs a lot of water. It colours best in sun, and keeps the colour well through the season.
