Rose 'Fire Meidiland'

They have this rose at Rite Aid for $15.00. Happy and healthy little 2 gallon potted rose. Anyone grow this? It's so cute I'm really tempted. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with it.

I have this rose, it is very healthy one, no BS, no PM, no canker. FM is absolutely care free, I do not water it, do not spray it at all, I feed just once in spring, and it always looks very happy and covered with big sprays of fire red flowers.

Something with a very crisp white variegation would be nice: for instance, a white variegated grass which would also supply some fine texture. I found a beautiful blue green/white variegated euphorbia last week called Ivory Jade. It takes full sun and is evergreen. I planted it with boxwoods and white roses near a white iron bench. It's stunning, though I do not know if it would be winter hardy for you.

Hey Chuck: You know I'm starting to think that is true. This year we added a rose bed in the front yard and expanded our perennial bed in back to include roses. In back the roses get great morning sun, a little bit of early afternoon sun and then are shaded by my birch tree and the neighbors cherry and apple trees. By far the roses in back are doing better. Of course I realize there could be other factors like the quality of the soil in back etc., But my husband and I seriously mulling over adding a tree that will grow fairly large in front to create a kinder late afternoon environment for the roses in the new bed that gets all day exposure. I used to think the maximum amount of sun for roses was the best but this summer has made me re evaluate that concept. Thanks. Kate

I'm in Melbourne, so I cant give you any direct addresses, but... Peards is a Gardenworld, isn't it? There's one near me, and they have so many nice things! They seem to get stock from all over; so If you were determined to get something specific, I would try and go to the source,.. you could try Corporate Roses (google em) based in S.A.; they seem to carry/be a supplier for a lot of Meilland roses, and I've seen their stock in garden centres etc in Victoria- you could try calling/emailing to see if they have sent anything to Sydney nurseries.. I've also seen a bit of Swane's stuff in my local Gardenworld- they have branches all over NSW, so you could try contacting them too. Otherwise try contacting Peards and see who supplies them? They might be nice enough to tell you, seeing they don't deliver outside Victoria...

I've been watching for a Scarlet Meidiland to appear in a nursery near me. Our Lowe's has F.M. and it looks nice, so maybe I should consider it instead.

Well MaryAnn I went and picked this up from Rite Aid at lunch. It is just full of buds. I figure any rose that can do well shoved in with ten other small rose bushes with apparently no water in the shade of that building must be tough. Can't wait for them to open.

This is my FM that is a standard and about four years in the ground.. Blooms in flushes and is a great red!

Kate, I don't have a full bush shot, only a picture of a spray of roses. It's a ground cover rose, about 1,5-2' tall and probably 6'wide. I planted it in a wrong location, so I have to prune FM a lot every spring and after every flush.

Alla thank you. So pretty. I can't wait. I wondered how viable it would be to grow FM in a pot this summer. I'm so out of room it's just not funny.

I am sure FM won't mind to grow in a pot. I think this rose is so tough that will put up with any abuse. Mine grows like a weed, actually not every weed will grow in that hot, dry, and poor soil spot.

OHHHH nice! I'm going to look for this one - I think it would look wonderful with the Alba Meidilands I've planted along the bank of a drainage ditch.
