Bin composting vs. sheet composting?
Comments (15)Not sure if this is helpful, but I thought I'd share my accidental experience: I set up a sort of lasagna bed late this spring where I removed about an 8 in. wide strip of sod down the middle of the long narrow bed (it runs along my walk). On either side of the removed strip, I layered newspapers or cardboard and then piled up material, including some composted horse manure and some four way mix that I built up along the center strip. The layers on either side were just made up of whatever I could find to build it up 7-8 inches above the newspaper the keep the grass from busting through and build the soil up for next year. The idea was to make sure the beans for this summer had something that was already good and ready to go in the middle so that they could grow well and root down sufficiently deep. I think that I incidentally also filled the bed full of e.f. eggs/small worms from the horse poo. I had sorted out most of the big clumps of worms from the manure for my worm bins. I didn't notice the wiggler presence in the bed til yesterday when I was pulling out my spent bush beans (Which actually did quite well in this setup-- The zucchini that I grew with the same lazy method went nuts!). As I pulled out the beans and disturbed the first couple inches of nearly composted lasagna layers, the numbers of worms shocked me! There was more than I've seen in any of my garden areas. It was a very pleasant surprise! I also have a small worm trench set up next to that bed, so there is a small chance that worms may have also come from that, but I kind of doubt it. I'm interested to see what happens over the winter. Best wishes!...See MoreSwiffer or alternative
Comments (4)My favorite mop at the moment is called something like "Vitoli" from Walmart - comes in a box - red - has a strong removable and washable pad. I think it is made of both soft terry and micro. VERY easy to use. I've tried all the swiffers and for my pergo floors, they just aren't powerful or strong enough. The other downfall of swiffers is that you are usually tied to their floor cleaner and pads. Pain in the rump as far as I'm concerned....See MoreDo you swiffer? And info for Oceanna . . .
Comments (39)I use the big wide swiffer type mop that has 2 heads, one for dusting, one for mopping. I think the Bruce people make this mop, not sure, can't remember. Both mop heads are washable. To mop laminate I use Taaka Vodka w/water, a little squirt of dish soap, then spritz with a spray bottle and mop as I go. No, I don't drink the vodka and water, it goes on the floor. For the tile I use the same cleaning solution, but use a string mop for more heavy duty mopping. For those of you using vinegar on your tile floors, remember vinegar will strip any sealant that is on your grout because of the acid. Also, swiffer liquid will discolor and dull certain types of tile finishes. I use the same Vodka/water and soap for the granite, ss appliances, glass, etc. along with a microfibre cloth. It works on almost everything. I do not use it on painted or stained wood surfaces as the alcohol could strip or dull the finish. I was using rubbing alcohol instead of pure alcohol and then learned the fumes from rubbing alcohol are dangerous to inhale. I prefer not to use any chemical cleaners in my house. Will use bleach rarely if needed, but that's about it for chemical cleaners. I use Greased Lightning for cleaning litter boxes outside. Spray, let set, hose and they are spotless without having to touch the inside of the box....See MoreSwiffer wet jet?
Comments (12)Joann maybe you should have someone else put the batteries in it. Mine quit working a few weeks ago and I thought I put the new batteries in right. It still wouldn't work. I finally had my husband put them in it and on his second try it did work. I thought I was following the diagram too. Yes mine leaks too. I take the bottle off of it when I am done using it. I also refill the bottle with Awesome cleaner. There are some utube videos on how to do it I think. I buy the pads at Dollar Tree....See Morepetalpatsy
