Tree broke in half

Last fall I planted a Spring Snow Crabapple that was about 6-7 feet tall. In a recent windstorm the main trunk broke completely off the tree about halfway down. All that is left is 5 or 6 side branches. I am wondering what this tree will look like as it matures. Like it was chopped off at the top or will it eventually fill in and look normal.

Just wondering if I should replace it or give it a chance to recover. We have a lot of terrible wind where I live and I wonder if I leave it, if the trunk will always be weak where it broke. Thanks for any advice you have.
