sandy soil

I know that certain things just grow better in sandy soil. The veggies I know of that apply to this are carrots, spinach, and melons of any kind. Are there any other veggies that prefer a sandy soil? (NOT LOAM just sandy soil)

I tried to grow spinach in the regular soil mixture I use (I do container gardening, so in order to get decent soil, I have to make my own mixture because the soil around here is horrible) and I noticed that it didn't do very well.

I tried to use some sandy soil that can be found basically everywhere around where I live, but the plants were very small and stunted and turned yellow.

I'd like to replace part of the pine bark mulch my original soil recipe calls for with sand, but how much sand should I use? I don't want to screw up the soil recipe as it has worked wonders for the vegetables grown in it.

Here's the recipe I use:

2-3 cu ft pine bark fines

5 gallons peat

5 gallons perlite

2 cups dolomitic (garden) lime (or gypsum in some cases)

2 cups CRF (if preferred)

1/2 cup micro-nutrient powder (or other source of the minors - provided in some fertilizers)
