Very nice, it's a good size and looks healthy, several buds, should get bigger w/bigger blooms by next year. You are in a good zone for so many roses. How much sun does it get?

I may have to replace my Graham Thomas because one cane looks cankered to me and all the shoots but one from the roots (own root) come off from it.

I love GC, saw one in a supermarket parking lot, wish I'd have rescued it because it was not in good shape a couple days later.

Also considering Teasing Georgia. HMF says 5b for GC and 6b for TG. So far I am getting away with a couple that HMF says are 6b roses, don't push it if the vendor says not hardy to Z5. I wanted a shorter climber just like Graham but there may not be one I'd like nearly as well, and I really want a yellow there.

That's a beautiful little baby GC...but...it can get waaaaaaaay bigger than that. Mine is at least 8' wide. I am just wondering if you have enough space there.

Our oldest Golden Celebrations are more than 10 years old now. Maybe 12. Somewhere in there.
Hoov's estimate of 8' across is pretty accurate, I think.

Your area should be good for GC -- which likes a LOT of water.
You sure can't beat the fragrance.

Mine is only 3 years old and 8 feet it isn't, but it is a good 6 feet X 6 feet. This is a vigorous rose and since you are in a warmer zone than I, you will probably end up moving it to a bigger spot.

Your rose is beautiful. Have you smelled it? What a wonderful scent.

actually, i cannot move it to a bigger spot; i am in a townhouse complex and it is in a bed beside my patio.it is like tokyo back there lol. no more real estate- all taken

i live in a house with a small paved backyard and my golden celebration is in exactly the same size bed against the fence, like yours. Though its still a baby i know it is going to grow bigger.I stopped worring about the space given because i think if you don't give enough room for the roots to expand, it's not going to grow big anyway.
i'd rather have a small bush than not having it at all.

i don't mind if it grows bigger; if it performs well i will sacrifice whatever is nearby for it to prosper. it's neighbour is a dublin bay in the corner which will we trained against that fence in the background. both are doing well and both are strong growers planted about three feet apart. most people would be amazed at what i have garden wise in such a limited space; about 45 roses (minis and full size) in a postage stmap patio. i can honestly say that i do not have room for another and that is why i have gave away three roses already this spring. when people see my garden they are overwhelmed by the beauty of the queen of flowers. what a problem to have...

joebar, can you please post more of your garden photos? i particularly like to see roses grown in small spaces. Always gives me new ideas to improve mine. At the moment i have about twenty roses. And i have so many more in my wish list which i don't have space for. I'm not very keen on planting roses in pots. Where i live there aren't many trees around, not much shade. So roses in pots get very dry in summer if you don't water them atleast twice a day.

That is a beautiful specimen of Golden Celebration! I love the plant habit of this rose, as I like roses that have relaxed canes and a natural-looking form. And I agree with some of the others that GC's scent is excellent.

i will and have been posting pics of my patio and roses. my challenge is that i have only 7 or 8 out of 40+ roses in the ground; the rest are in pots or hanging baskets. ironically the ones in the ground are trouble free for the most part. nearly every one of my potted ones have had issues. having said that, i have turned my attention to the potted ones and relearnt how to care for a container plant. it is completely different on so many levels. drainage is # 1 with a potted rose. now that they drain properly, they are as robust and sexy as the grounded ones.
