Not sure of the hook-up, but i'd definitely take off the mower deck, as it will make it difficult to move the tractor with it on there, in the snow. The mechanism for the raising of the plow, on my Murray, and some other things, would be impacted by having the deck in place!

Yea, think you are right. I need to come up with some chains for the traction dept. I have some old car chains I might be able to modify to work. I'd look funny trying to push stuff around and not moving! This may be a project that I will be wishing for a rear attachment to loosen the dirt up. All I have seen that would do that, is a cultivator on eBay. There is a sliding hitch on there right now, that I need to try to snatch away from the other bidders.

The deck will need to come off. The tractor manual would not be any help installing the plow, you will need the instruction sheet for the attachment.
What is the rear tire size? Chains should be available from a reputable small engine or tire shop if you give them that information. You may also want a weight box fastened to the rear of the tractor, you likely will need to make one and fill it with sand, rocks, broken concrete etc.

Deck is easy to remove, and yes, you need it off. I have a mid 90 Murray 22hp up at a cabin I own in a town of Fishcamp, just outside (w) of Yosemite NP.

We use it to plow the road...albeit nothing substitutes a bit of weight. I tried putting weights on the wheels, then put weight on the tail end (old JD lead weights), then we put on chains. Then we hung weight on the blade.

Now I wished I had bought a generator which attaches to the front end out of Nevada off Ebay. I could of used the
temp power unit last weekend when the lights went out...

The blade makes it pretty rough at times when you are building a band. You might want to invest in a seat belt...

Hey thanks for the info. I started to put it on this morning, but then got sidetracked with wife wanting some furniture moved around in the house. Well, she's happy now, so I can get back on the Murray project. I have a set of 18 wheeler chains, and did have a set for a car, not sure if I still have them. As to the weight, which is better hanging them off the back or wheel weights or both. I'd like to get a sliding hitch on it so I could get a cultivator to loosen the ground for my dirt moving project. But since the snow plow is designed to trip over if loaded to much, it might not work for what I was planning. The wheel size is rear 23x9.50-12 and front 16x6.50-8....I wonder if wheel weights could be custom made with concrete? Hmmm...... anyway this winter we actually may get some snow where I could get the snow plow out and run down the drive way and push the snow off. We rarely get much more than an inch, but one year we got clobbered and had about 6" in one snow. Gotta get this rigged up and be prepared..

I bet if you looked hard enough, someone on the web has made concrete wheel weights. Weight box seems easier to me. They usually put fairly light duty blades on the front of these. They will do enough work though. I had a similar Murray with the 800 series transaxle all chained and weighted up. I could maneuver a trailer with close to 1000#s around in the backyard. Wouldn't you know I tore the differential out of it a month before I was done...

Yea, was wondering about that very thing. I don't need yard art in the form of a broken Garden Tractor.....I know it isn't a dozer, but it is tempting to try to shove a little top soil around in my yard to fill in some low spots, Well, maybe I should just try and fix it and then keep it ready for my "snow storm", hehheh, as was noted before, My justification for playing with this.

Mownie: Find another tractor exactly like the one you use, and keep it as a source of spare parts! So long as you have "spares" on hand.....the one you use will not break, unless a black cat crosses your path :^)

Look in the Tools section in this forum. There is a message from Bush-league, in answer to a snow plow question by Rusty Jones. He included a blow-up picture of the snow plow and its parts, and you can get an idea of what you will need for it!
One thing--those tractors aren't designed for heavy use, or pushing dirt and rocks, nor are the snow plows!

Thanks Mownie! His is quite a bit different than the one I have. I'm in the process of mounting the snow plow on this Murray. Just haven't had the time this week end to finish doing it.
I'm now looking to see if I can find a sleeve hitch that I can put on it. I'm sorta leaning along the lines that the blade on this won't be heavy enough for dirt work, unless it was already loosened up. It isn't a dozer blade and the tractor won't be heavy enough for real earth moving unless I have a "ground engaging " implement to hang on the back to loosen up the dirt first. Either a cultivator or some other type of simple dirt loosening implement and then try to move it. I watched a YouTube vid where a guy used a blade pretty much same as mine and all he was doing, was pushing around dust on his dirt driveway. Either way, I'd like to outfit this Garden tractor and if I don't need it later then its a fully functional garden tractor and as such will be worth more when I offer it for sale.
So if any of ya out there has a line on a used sleeve hitch that I can rob, I mean buy, leave me a message and I'll contact ya. Spotted a couple of possible ones on eBay, but they are for Craftsman, got to check and see if I think I can modify them. Saw a couple of diagrams and a close up shot of one by Johnny Equipment Co. that I could perhaps fabricate, given enough time and enough welding wire, I could cobble something together. It looks fairly easy and the dimensions are out there to get the correct layout. Looking like a fairly large winter project.
