I'm in trouble if I ever see Legends blooming. I'm a sucker for big blooms. I've still got April in Paris and Over the Moon sitting on the porch waiting to be planted too. The blooms on those two are huge and are even doing fine in the rainstorm we had these past two nights.

I have seen them all and I absolutely LOVE all of your choices. I just ordered Gizmo, and have been thinking about Margo Koster, so I was very excited when I read you got her. Legends has been beautiful every time I've seen it somewhere, and my friend has Wing Ding planted all along the front of her house, it looks amazing. I'm so excited for you, have fun with the newbies!

Say, do you think my mystery rose might be Legends? Right now it is bloming flourescent pink, but it is a cherry-red or orange-red in the summer heat. Will you look?

Legends is new for 2009. I don't think it was available last year.

Actually, its the three small flowering roses that I am most excited to add to my garden. But I do love red roses and Legends just really got my attention. I am thinking on placement for all of them but have not decided as I have multiple ideas on were I could put them.

I think this is the 3rd seaon for Gizmo. Today I was thinking what a lovely splash of color. It's loaded with blooms!

I loved Gizmo the first time I saw it in pictures, just my kind of bloom. Then I saw it locally afew years ago and just loved it. Why I didn't buy it that day I do not know. But I bought it now so I am very pleased.

Well Greenhaven, I would think it is not Legends. The Legends I've seen have HUGE blooms that are a clear red but not bright. I have a bright red Olympiad, could it be that? Other reds I know are darker. But it depends what you mean by cherry red, because Olympiad is definitely not pinkish.

maele, thanks, I have no idea what it could be except that it is an HT. It was a rescue from my friends yard, and she lost the name years ago. Now I know it's not legends! But Legends is gorgeous. newyorkrita, you have made some excellent choices!

Well, Margo Koster and Gizmo are still blooming away. Meanwhile Wing Ding had opened and is now strongly blooming also. None of the four roses are planted.

Great choices on polys. What lovely splashes of colour you will have. When can we expect 'Wing Ding's' portrait? I too have promised to buy no more this season, I already know that will be a bust. My son's friend with a new house just asked me to find him some shrub roses for his back yard. There is no such thing as looking and not buying. We all know that.

I looked up Wing Ding at Weeks Roses and they call the color searing scarlett. Seems to me that would be a very bright color and they are not that loud a color. But the second picture on the site, that shows the masses of bloom is a great color match so my idea of searing scarlett and their idea of searing scarlett must be different. I do like it very much however.

Rita, is WD a blue-based or orange-based red? Looks orange-based to me so we must have the same idea of scarlet (blue-based).

Also what about Legends, blue- or orange-based?

Know what you mean about the haul. Today I made a few stops for the neighbor who is coveting my Cinco de Mayo which I did find at Armstrong. On the way, I got what looks like an own-root Burgundy Iceburg at HD on sale for $10 in a 5 gal can. I've wanted this one for awhile so it didn't take much to make the trip into my cart. It will be in a small bed in back with Intrigue and with Sharifa Asma and Gruss an Auchen in front to compliment my Rose of Sharon on the other side - can't wait!

I don't know what to say about the color of Legends. Its was a true red, no orange or purple or black tones to my eyes. It only had the one bloom on it which was gone by the 2nd day so its difficult to remember anything but the fact that both the color and size completely got my immediate attention.

Wing ding is a kind of usual color to me. Not sure how I would classify it. The buds and unopened flowers look darker to me and then get more of a glowing color after they are fully open. I think it really would look stunning planted in mass like a hedgerow or something like that.

I put in a Legends rose this year and I love it.
My bushes first bloom was a good 8 1/2" across, deep dark red, and nicely fragrant which was a nice surprise to me. The bloom didn't last quite as long as I wished, but hopefully that will improve as the rose matures somewhat. I was initially worried that there was only one single bud for quite a while, but now I see that there are about 6 or 7 more now and they all appear to be very large as well. Also, the stems are nice and long and plenty strong enough to support the huge blooms with no problem at all. Many large blooming roses hang their heads because the stems aren't strong enough to support them and I don't like that.

I still haven't planted most of them but at least I figgured out were I will plant them. Legends I haven't even decided were to plant yet.
