'Irish Hope'? 'Celtic Pride'?

However, I would not go strictly by the name--I would go by what is going to look beautiful and thrive for a long time in your zone, which is a tough one for roses. Someone in your area can best advise you on what will be healthy and strong there.

Consider growing one that was released in his birth year.
I selected one for my father, Prosperity, and it turned out to be a real winner.

Grand-dad did not have a favorite plant ( unless you count potatoes rye,or wheat beacuse you can make Vodka out of them lol) I wish he did it would make this simpler.

It's not as simple here in zone 5/6..I am a 6 b but look for 5a stuff so it can survive the freak cold winters. Mainly in terms of roses it means they must be own root roses. HBT's and grafts like on rose trees can be done..but they take a lot more coddling. That irish hope is beautiful. I have to read up on that AND Celtic pride... The last talk I had with My grand dad was about our beloved Boston Celtics..

There is also St. Patrick, it's mostly yellow, but the buds are sort of greenish. But I'm not sure it's hardy to zone 5.

Hi ontheteam - I've been thinking about your request from our zone 5 perspective. David Austin's Heritage does beautifully here (hardy and a great re-bloomer) and I'm sure your grandfather left you all with a wonderful heritage. Golden Wings (a very hardy beautiful single yellow that blooms all summer long) or St. Swithun (a lovely pink David Austin climber that is also quite hardy for me) both reflect his Catholic background. The beautiful pink Buck rose Quietness is always a lovely memorial rose. And don't forget America - your Grandfather or his parents left Ireland to come to America and probably prospered because of that brave move. These are all great roses for this climate zone.

A hybrid tea named "Remembering Michael" was introduced in 2005. Unfortunately Helpmefind.com has no pictures or any sources listed. There is no information about the hybridizer, Donald A. Halvorson, either. Perhaps you could post on the Propagation & Exchange forum and someone may be willing to send you a rooted cutting?

KARL! That's a name I remember! I used to haunt this forum ALOT from ohhh 1198ish till 2001. i had a few names 'cause I always ended up on the wrong side of Spike.lol..

Take a good hard look at "Distant Drums". It's a Buck rose so it should do well in your area.

There is a mauve rose called "Remembering Michael" on HMF, but there is no way to obtain the rose unless you get a hold of the rose breeder from what I can tell.

"St. Patrick" is a very floral like white/yellow blend with green reverse on the petals. It is a HT and supposedly only hardy to Z7, but they grow it in the Columbus Park of Roses Z6/Z5 line and it grows just fine here in Columbus.
