Planting under Willow Oak

I have a young WIllow Oak tree(about 14 feet tall) and I would like to create a kidney bean shaped 6" high dry stacked stone wall around it to tie it into to the rest of my landscaping. I would also like to plant a few companion plants under the Willow Oak. Are there any potential problems I should be aware of or guidelines to follow?? If not, what would be the best plants to consider for use under the tree. Keep in mind, the tree is still very small, so it doesn't provide any shade at all yet. The plants would be exposed to full sunlight.

Thanks,
