Hey - who said something about wisdom - where do they sell it - can I reserve a bucket or two? In any case - cut half of the Y - sucker - mama - who cares - and try to root it. You can root it in water or in soil - you need some light soil - you can get any AV soil from Home Depot a bag of perlite and a bag of vermiculite - and mix them 1:1:1 - it would be perfect - or av soil and perlite 2:1 - OK. Just moisten the soil, plant the sucker in it and cover with a baggie. In 3-4 weeks it will be growing. Just remove most of the leaves from the sucker - and leave a half inch stub of the stem, lightly scrape the skin to get rid off a brownish bark. In one month you will know if it worked. Then you can repeat the procedure with the second part of Y. This kind of soil is much better for the violets - but it dries faster. Good luck Irina

Hi Krystal, The link below shows you how to save the plant. The difference is instead of a long neck you have rot up to a certain place. Decapitate above the rot, even if you have to take off leaves to find where the stem doesn't have rot. In fact, since the plant won't have roots it's a good idea to remove some leaves anyway. You can try starting them so you'll have babies just in case the plant dies. The stalk in the pot should be thrown away. Rot is a common result of mix staying too wet too long. There is a lot of good info on this forum about watering and making potting mixes that are forgiving of overwatering. I know 6 years later and I'm buzzing in. Well, this just happened to my tomatoes and I'm no gardening pro! But, I saw some tiny poop that had me wondering who it belonged too. I thought maybe my tomatoes were getting too much sun and thats why its was turning colors but I did some googling. I found out, I had a Catapillar living and eating my plant! I sat down and stared at my tomato plant wondering if I would find this mystery Catapillar and then all the sudden right in front of my face there he was, about the size of my finger, but blended in so perfectly to look like a leaf. After posting this discovery on fb. all my gardening pros warned me that he would kill my plant totally and move on to the others. As well as lay larve. Yuck! Well, upon looking at your photos I think I found his cousin hanging out in your photo!! The close up was the one in my garden. So you can see it better. It's a tomato horn... Yours may be in a different family. But it's a catipiller!

Well, here's some more updated pics. The leaf margins are actually not smooth, but with a few points. (Full res) (Full res)This doesn't match Atriplex littoralis then - which has smooth leaf edges. They would seem to match Wax Myrtle leaves more in that regard - except Wax Myrtle leaves seem a bit wider, glossier, and harder? And I also haven't ever noticed any flowers on these before?
