What gloves do you wear?

Do you wear the gloves with the long cuffs when you work on the roses?

I've always worn wrist gloves, but this summer I seem to be getting snagged more than usual. I'm thinking of getting the longer gloves. If you wear the longer ones, which ones do you like?

Would not do any heavy duty rose work without wearing goat skin gauntlets. The thorns will not go through the goat skin and the gauntlets protect you up to your elbows. I got a nice pair from Little's Good Gloves online.

Well...currently I don't use gloves....although let's just say...I understand the benefits of doing so.

Hi guys. I just wanted to drop my 2 cents on the gardening gloves. My husband buys gloves online from a company called A.S.A. Corp. They are a safety company that sells all types of gloves, safety glasses,etc. They are manufacturers and there prices are much better than Lowes or HD or any other store ive seen. I bought 6 pairs of pig skin gloves with white fleece lining from them. Now I had to call them because they dont list that particular glove but I paid 5.00 for them as compared to $12.00. As I matter of fact I do wear jewelry differently at my 2 homes! I can't stand cold metal touching me so I don't wear necklaces in the winter (from Nov to about March) at my regular home. And I wear one particular pair of earring almost all winter because they dangle but not long enough to touch my skin. Some of the longer ones end up touching my neck from my scarves & bulky coat so I avoid those. It's crazy but cold metal just sends a chill right through me and makes me feel colder. Since it's warmer in HHI, I do wear necklaces & earrings and even bracelets. I usually bring a few down with me so that I can have some variety. One necklace at a time, if it's bold than the earrings are smaller. One bracelet at a time and it depends on my sleeve length. In both places, I occasionally wear rings when I remember them. Your comments about gold & blue reminds me that I have an 18k gold ring with a lapis lazuli stone. I should dig that out and start wearing it again.

I have to take a strong steroid medication which makes my skin thin and easily cut or torn. So I try to wear thin leather gloves while working whenever it's practical. But working in electrical boxes or any other work in close quarters like that is impossible for me to do with gloves on. Right now I have 2 different large cuts on my right hand in the process of healing, and that's just from replacing a standard recep with a GFCI last Thursady.

Bionic Rose Gloves. They're available at lots of places, but I got mine from the manufacturer's site (link posted). As they are the only gloves I've ever had that I'd actually call comfortable, I'd highly recommend them. They feel wonderful to wear in spite of arthritis and tendonitis problems here.

Size note: they tend to run smaller than many of the gloves you might have bought at Home Depot, etc. I ordered mine via the phone to get size advice from the seller, because I had been surprised at the measurement results their site was using to recommend sizes; my measurement was coming out to recommend a "medium" but my hands are quite small, so small that even an ordinary "small" glove size has always been too large, especially in the length of the fingers. Anyway, the size medium fits much better than any gloves I've ever had, and the fingers are only a tiny bit longer than my fingers, not miles too long as is usually the case with a size small of other gloves. So I'd suggest using their own size chart to determine what size of these particular gloves to order ("Sizing Help" on the right side of the page).

You are supposed to be able to wash them, and I've done a mild version of that in the kitchen sink. It didn't hurt them a bit.

White goat leather welder glowers - long and short sleaved. Comes in mens sizes !!! Not like the lil wee lady gardengloves ... That is if I remember to wear them - Right now my hands and underarms looks like I gave 100 rabied wild cats a bath ... I swear I will remember to wear them ... I will - I will.

Rose gauntlet gloves from Bearwallow. Nice goatskinned ones. Nothing will get through those! :)

For general rose work I use deerskin gloves. I've never had a thorn go through them EVER. No need to be careful ... just grab the cane and keep moving. Just don't get them wet while you're wearing them or your hands will be yellow for a day or two. (lesson learned)

I also have the Bionic gauntlets ... love them! Sometimes thorns get through the stretchy parts, but that doesn't happen too often. They save my forearms if I'm working with the big roses. I used to have a pair of the regular Bionic gloves, but they had an unfortunate encounter with a lawnmower.

For the most part, I wear whatever gloves fit these hands of mine. I have long skinny fingers, and it's hard to find gloves that are comfortable to work in. I check out the glove display in whatever store I happen to be in, and I buy some when I find ones that fit.

Wells Lamont suede gauntlet leather gloves are $2.50 at Walmart. The only problem is that the back is mostly cloth so you can get stuck. I have trouble with delicate chores like tying canes with twine. I need playtex living rose gloves! Gloves only last as long as the stitching. Even a small hole can be disastrous when you grab a thorny cane. Thus I hesitate to buy expensive gloves.

I buy the cheapo cowhide gloves in HD. This year they had pretty ones for about $3.97. I tend to destroy the gloves with digging in the dirt so I don't want to spend a lot of money. I do have a heavy pair of gauntlet gloves that I'll wear when doing heavy pruning in the fall and winter, but they are way too hot to wear in the summer.
