safe to compost diseased foliage?

I have been trimming yellowing (not diseased) branches from my tomato plants to be used in my compost bin (which is currently under construction) and storing them in a plastic trash bin for the time being. I'm about to rip out what is left of my cuke plants but and skeptical about composting them considering how sickly the looked since July. Should only healthy plants be composted or does it not matter?
