 Open Garden Days, Sunday and next weekend, Susan and Peter Schneider's garden, 6193 Vair Road, Freedom Township, Portage County (near Ravenna). Visitors are invited to see more than 1,200 roses grown by the Schneiders, both rose collectors. Peter Schneider is also the author of Right Rose, Right Place. Rare and hard-to-find roses will be for sale. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, 5-8 p.m. June 19 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20. Free. Information: 330-296-2618.

barefootgirl, what time were you there? I went with my family, we were there around 1:30pm, left around 3:00pm. I have long curly hair with a straw hat on, dark blue top, blue flower pants, red shoes. Did you see me there? :-)

I was there early, before it got too stinky hot! 10:15ish to around noon.

I hope you found some good roses there that early. It was a hot day indeed, not usd to the temps above 80 F.

Thank you for this notice. I had NO IDEA! I can't wait. We're going this Sunday and stopping in Wooster on Saturday to visit the OARDC'sGarden of Roses of Legend and Romance. My kind of weekend despite all the driving.

Please give us an update on your visit to the OARDC'sGarden of Roses of Legend and Romance. Perhaps even starting a new thread. It has been a number of years since I have visited it. Before that, it appeared to be going downhill as every several years it appeared that someone else was in charge. If memory serves me right, the long time caretaker had retired.

Have fun! They still have a lot of good roses left for sale (Price $20-40). How many hours for you to get there? There were some roads near the garden closed, it took us a while to go around. Thanks for mentioning about OARDC'sGarden of Roses of Legend and Romance. will visit there next year.

I already visited the rose garden in
Richmond, In last year so I'm looking forward to seeing something new. . We're starting out visiting OARDC's Garden of Roses of Legend and Romance in Wooster on Saturday, then heading up for Peter Schneider's Open House
which is beyond exciting. On the way back Monday, we'll visit the OGR section of the Columbus Park
Roses ie. The Heritage Garden which is the former site of The ARS. LINK I'll be sure to post about it all.

I went to CPoR last year and was ranting how they had torn out the
OGR roses, not realizing there's entire section devoted to them beyond
the modern plantings. We just missed the entrance. I had to eat my words
on that one!

vaporvac, did you make it to all the gardens? Hopefully it wasn't raining through out the day.

Summers, I DID make it to all the gardens including twice to the GoRoLandR. I'm going to write up a couple of posts in the antique and Organic Section, but I'll link to them in the Rose forum. The weather held out until the CGoR, but the downpour was quick and we were back exploring in no time, a little sodden, but it added to the fun.

We visited 3 years ago; took most of the afternoon and did not get it looked over as well as we would have liked. In addition to all the gorgeous roses, we spoke to them about our bad luck with roses. We described the area and the problem as we perceived it and were given advice and recommendations of what might grow well for us. We had about 5 beautiful blooms last year. Two weeks ago I discovered 14 buds, some of which have opened, the rest are on their way! The bush is healthy, growing well, and the most beautiful shades of coral! Thank you so much for the time you spent with us and the pleasure you have given us! We would love to get back there some day. I can't recommend this experience enough!

Janet! You can't keep us in suspense as to what rose you bought. 😀I agree, peter is so generous with his time.

Janet ,do you remember the name of Peter's second most favorite rose ? Two years ago he told me the rose named after his wife Susan is his favorite, but I can't remember the name of the next favorite dark rose he recommended . I thought I would remember so I didn't write it down and of course forgot, and do not recognize it among his list.
