Gas BBQ Ashes for Compost?

I read in the FAQ that you're not supposed to use Charcoal BBQ ashes in a compost heap, but what about the ashes left from a gas bbq grill? For example, when I bbq meat, corn, etc, my bbq has a layer of ash that gradually collects in the pan. Is this okay to add to the compost? I don't think flies would be attracted to it because it's ash. Or does it contain too much oil / grease still?
