Kubota GR2100 steering problem

This week-end I gave my 13 year old a hard time for turning too quickly causing tire marks in the lawn. First I thought he was riding his dirt bike in the yard and trying to make a donut. However after he cut, I used the tractor and found myself doing the same. I noticed one front tire was low in pressure. However after setting the tire pressure I still create tire tracks. I have had this tractor for four years. It has never done this.

Has anyone ever had the need to reset the angel on their front tires. If so is it difficult?

Does your model have adjustable tie rod ends that you could change the toe in? Comparing side to side, do the spindles seem the same or maybe one has a bend?

It might be that simple, or it could be much more complicated. I'm not familiar with this model Kubota, but I am aware of problems in 4-wheel drive systems and even in some 2-wheel drive systems using locking differentials where the drive components fail to release or "free wheel" properly in turns, resulting in hard steering and/or turf damage. Clicking the link will reveal the likelihood of the problem to occur, by the manner of how Kubota "pitches" their way of addressing the issue.

There are some detailed posts on MTF about this same problem. If you do a search for "GR2100 Tranny Problems" or something similar you'll find you're not alone with this problem. I think Kubota has even recognized that a problem exists with these tranny's - you may want to talk to your dealer about this sooner than later. At least get it documented that you reported a problem at xxx hours in case they decide to repair/replace the tranny down the road. Best of luck!

Bought gr2110 last week , already have 6+hr, found a loose transmission bolt, had to level deck, seat is 2.5 in lower, high back seat, spring loaded seat adjustable for weight, zg23-54 style deck ,awd working well, I have hilly terain and before walk behind safest, husky zero turn or lawn tractor could not handle -sliding and traction problems ....but GR2110 is nice puts smile on your face. feels stable think lower seat a plus

I love my zero turn very much. (see attached photo) I bought a 2100 a while back for my wife because she doesnt like zero turns. me personally i dont like the steering on it its kind of like a 4-wheel differential on a truck. This tractor traveling in a straight direction is in All Wheel Drive. When starting a turn, the Glide Steer is engaged. The inside rear wheel begins to track freely, thus enabling a tight turn while preventing damage to the turf. The front wheels turn 70 degrees, much more than other garden tractors in the marketplace. I havent had any problems out of the transmission yet. (KNOCK ON WOOD) I say if it goes for the right price go for it say around the $2500-$3500 price range i paid $6000 for mine brand new and it came with a bagger. And on a 2nd note i would ask the seller if you can drive it before buying to see if you like the way it steers. Thats the main complaint i've seen about this mower. I did look at Cub Cadet, it was a model with locking diff and a 4-way hydraulics for the plow. but cost (with plow & 48" mower deck)was about $8700. I didn't price out a snowblower from Cadet. But it was not 4WD or AWD. I also went to a JD dealer, but with the JD's change to volume retailers, we lost the three dealership in our region that were known for their service, knowledge and yes, even price. Now there's only one, it's part of a large equipment/builders supply store. The salesman told me the best priced tractor with the features and attachments to do the jobs I wanted was in the $15,000 range. Like I stated above, the two I'm looking at are both AWD and under $8,000. The Simplicity corporation restructuring has me scared of buying one. I'm wondering if they'll follow the JD lead and my local reliable dealer will be forced out of business if they demand showroom upgrades, and/or triple inventory demands. And, Yes, the snow removal capacity is my biggest concern. If I only had to cut grass, I could get by with a smaller weight/cheaper unit. Plus if it broke I could let the grass grow for a while, however, if 7 inches of snow falls overnight, I still have to get out from the bottom of long steep and winding driveway to go to work. The driveway is crowned (as it needs to be) so a big (6' or larger) blade does more harm than good. I tried this twice and had to shovel the remainder and since it was packed into ice, well you get the picture. Therefore my questions about snowblowers since I've never used one. So, I also don't know anything about snowblower brands, attached to tractors or otherwise. However, I'm not interested in a walk behind. I have been using a Sears Craftsman GT for 5 years, but the recent number of breakdowns, and the manual angling of the plow and the difficulty to remove the deck etc. has me lookinig to upgrade. It appears my Sears wheel weights and chains should transfer easily to the Simplicity, but the Kubota wants suitcase rear weights because of the torque sensing differentials. (according to the dealer) Chains should work though.

tomplum - you have a good question to which I don't know the answer. Hoping somebody would know.

mownie - thanks for the diagram. However the front left tire seams to be the problem.

If the left front tire scuffs on a hard right,the right side cable is broken,probably at the front,inside the rubber boot.That's the one that broke on mine.I went ahead and put both new cables on at a cost of 133 w/labor.Both cables are the same,so now I have a spare.For what the tractor does for me,I don't mind spending a few bucks on it now and then.

locknut - I checked under both front boots and the cables were in tact. They seemed loose so I thought an adustment was required. Since I couldn't find any info on cable adjustment I decided to go to the dealer. I didn't investigate any further at that point, just hurried up and off I went to the dealer. Turns out one of the cables was broken. The service rep didn't know where the cable broke but said he would make sure the mechanic saved the old cable. It will cost me about 140 as well. I run mine hard as well so I guess a visit to the dealer after four years isn't bad. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the report back. We don't get the opportunity to service these often enough. Nice tractor.

Well it happened again. The glide steer cable broke. I called the dealer and he said the parts are not under warranty, however he would cut me some slack on the labor. The dealer also said if proper lubrication is not performed every 30 some hours then this can cause cable fatigue. I do lubricate my tractor. Probably every 10 hours. I think the cable is undersized. I'm not too pleased with Kubota!

Good news. The dealer said they were at fault and repaired my tractor at no cost. I was shocked. I will send a gratitude letter to corporate.
