Is WS 2000 better on its own roots?

I have a WS2000 grafted in the ground, and a WS2000 that grew from a pruning I struck in a pot. The grafted one is beautiful but now that it is four years old, a bit too vigorous in an octopus-like fashion. The one in the pot stays much smaller, perhaps because it is in a pot, but it also blooms less. I only plan to keep one, because I think this rose is still under patent.

I'd like to plant the potted rose in the ground to replace the grafted one IF I thought it would get just a bit bigger and bloom just a bit more, but not turn into the sprawling shape the original is. Does anyone know how likely this is? Has anyone ever grown WS2000 on its own roots?
