What looks like a Topaz Rugosa but isn't?

I am weeding the neighbor's roses. They're miniature roses and have produced clone-babies all around her. They look just like every picture of Topaz Rugosa, but since she's either coming true from seed or sending out runners I'm not sure that that's what she is.

The neighbor has been dead for nearly three years and probably stopped gardening well before that for health reasons, so these younger roses were definitely not planted.

The only thing I can definitely say about the plant is that it's a rose. The thorns aside, one can't mistake the smell for anything else. As soon as I started weeding her she thanked me by giving off the most clean and sharp rose smell.

Poor thing. Someone tried to keep her out of the way by tying all the branches together to a post. Needless to say, most of the branches were rotting.
