Need some tree recommendations

At first I thought my limited space forced me to reconsider having a tree but after browsing this forum I'm thinking that the door may not yet be shut on this one yet!

I posted to the shrub forum already asking for help as well but I figured it can't hurt to post here especially since a tree is what I was initially after.

The corner of my house is where I'd like to plant but the lack of area before hitting the property line is what I thought was limiting me. I do not want the window blocked but the area from the window to the property line is about 8 feet. My neighbour has a large oak where the trunk is right on the property line, so I am not overly concerned about the canopy hanging over onto the neighbouring property which gives me more room to play with. If the canopy grows past the first story, I feel like I have even more options.

Is 8' b/w the house corner and the property line, or b/w the end of window and the property line?

dogwoods and redbuds would work. Now there are many types of dogwoods, flowering dogwood (cornus florida) would best in this situation I think . Many of my neighbors have these trees planted close to the house without any damage.

Dracaena warnekii 'Lemon Lime' has cool bright green and yellow striped leaves and would work in your less bright spot. So would pothos, which comes in lots of speckled leaf combos, or Philodendron 'Brasil' which has cool green and yellow striped leaves.. Also ditto on the aglomenas and dieffenbachias as good choices. All of these like to be kept on the dry side - don't water until the top of the soil feels dry to the touch, then water well until water comes out the bottom, but don't let them sit in water for more than a few hours. If you're willing to water more often, there is a variegate peace lily (spathiphyllum 'domino') that is way cool. For the bright light, my first choice would be a variegated Ficus elastica (rubber tree). In good light, the leaves are green with cream and get great red highlights. Crotons are colorful and like bright light, but they are so prone to spider mites that you will need to budget for new ones every year or two. You could also try a variegated ficus. Or any of the syngoniums - there are some new varieties with multicolored leaves that are fun but still a bit hard to find. I love multicolored leaves, can you tell?!

I'm in eastern Kansas - these are my summer choices - May - got mine from Big Horse Creek Farm - very early Early Harvest Yellow Transparent Summer Rambo - semi-productive Gravenstein - tried and true PaulaRed - Ken Krause at Fieldstone loved these - mine haven't fruited yet but I visited his Overbrook orchard many times - they were great Lodi - family favorite - people will drives miles and miles for Lodis (the most requested summer apple here) Akane - excellent growth on M111 Statefair - performs great! Mine were on G30 and M111 - the M111s are doing much better Varieties like Gala and Honeycrisp don't ripen here until the end of August to mid-September. I've been selling pick-your-own here for years now and people just don't come out in the Kansas heat to pick 'em. You might be able to market them straight to the grocer's or do a roadside stand. I'm changing my plantings and focus to more late-season varieties. Give me a shout if you'd like to trade any scion wood this year. I'll still keep specimin trees of the summer apples but I'll most likely end up with extra scion wood this year with my layout changes. Rick Godsil, Wagon Wheel Orchard Oh - I here Ken's orchard is under new ownership - he had many of the summer apples listed if you wanted to try them before you plant them. Between his place and mine you'd be able to make a well informed decision.

Thank you scotjute and bboy for helping much appreciated. I live in Madera, California, summers are HOT! Triple digits (100-112) June thru August. Winters are cold with temps dropping down in the low 30's. My backyard faces East so I get Sunshine all day long. That section in the picture gets sun exposure for the greater part of the day. There are no other trees planted within 800 feet with exception to the the 80 acres of almond trees just planted last week directly behind my house. I do not prefer pine trees nor any trees that have any type of sticky fruit droppings or sap like substances as I plan on having a BBQ island and seating in the very near vicinity. I hope this information helps. I will check back in tomorrow. Thanks again !! :)

I se no accent walls in your future. I see low ceilings and no molding. So, my suggestion, is one color for walls and ceiling…white with ceiling in a higher gloss finish. Then your ceiling becomes the accent wall.

I take it's from the window edge to property line. First thought that come to my mind are Crabapple or American Fringe Tree. But those will be tight eventually. Could also do a more columnar shaped tree, be it Crabapple, Oak, Ginkgo, or something else.. Not wanting to block the window at all will be though. Maybe Mt Airy Fothergilla for a larger shrub.

5 feet from corner of house to property line
8 feet from edge of stucco area to property line
9 feet from actual window to property line

Dogwoods typically have a greater width than height do they not? I should also mention I'm not a big fan of flowers and am more of a foliage type person. I can tolerate flowers but am not sure I want an entire tree of them.

Crabapple has been recommended to me 3 times now...I'm thinking this might make the short list!

Dawyck Beech trees are very popular trees in my neighborhood. I have seen many people plant them up against their houses and at the corners of their houses. They come in different color variations. My favorite is purple...

The purple fountain Beech is also very popular for corner plantings! Hope this helps

maybe a clethera sweetshrub a great cultivar is "Rubyspice" they do have flowers...but they smell is intoxicating....really something special. Interesting foliage and grows into a very large bush. Native too.

You could plant any tree on this spot and it won't be up against your house, nor block the passage from the front yard to the side yard.

Don't go with a crab apple, you can easily enjoy that in somebody else's yard. Look at ginkgo biloba jade butterflies, acer palmatum koto no ito, taxodium distichum peve minaret or even liquidambar styraciflua slender silhouette. Branch out a bit from the common and mainstream.

Wow! Thanks all for the recommendations!! A lot of people in my neighbourhood have Japenese Maples (red...not sure of the name) at the corner or tall green conifers...so that is something I want to stay clear of! I do want to break away from mainstream and all these suggestions are great!

Others ones I have come up with are:

Chinese Fringe Free
Star Magnolia
Japanese Maple - Butterfly
Crape Myrtle - Acoma or Tonto

I really REALLY like the Crape Myrtle Acoma and aware I will need to baby it a bit for first couple years until it is established since I am on the cold end of its zone...would I ALWAYS have to baby it (i.e. wire cage with leaf insulation) or can I stop after a couple years? Or is it just a bad idea overall...? I also read tht Seven Son Flower is Crape Myrtle's northern cousin...
