It seems as if some AVs sport often. If you put down a leaf from a sport, you will not get the original play. You may get the same sport, or it may sport again.

Some plants are very unstable, especially those with more than one color. Sometimes sports are an improvement over the original or at least have some very good points about them and they are registered.

All the chimeras, those with striped colors, are sports. They are "discovered" within a collection. I have found two sports which are chimeras. One was supposed to have been Ness' Midnight Fantasy and another was Jonathan, hybridized by Croteau.

It takes a very long time to take these sports through three generations to see if they will remain true to themselves or if they will sport again to yet another description.

So a sport is any plant that continiously blooms differently than it's supposed to? Will that happen from the first bloom on, or can it happen later on?

NOID Britta. LOL, I read somewhere if you have a sport and want to be sure and get the sport again you need to propagate from suckers.

Matter of fact my JONATHAN (Croteau) bloomed true for a few cycles, then didn't bloom for awhile and recently came up with a lavender with lavender stripe. It has 5 blooms to a flowerstem so may be very floriferous but only time will tell if it will remain with the lavender stripe.
