Shailer's Provence. (I put this on your other thread, too, and am adding it here in case someone comes across this.) Chinas and Hybrid Chinas are different roses. (though the ARS won't tell you this.) Think of a Hybrid China as the first crosses made in the late 18th and early 19th century between the new-and-amazing everblooming China roses and the once blooming, fragrant, old European roses. Since the reblooming gene in the Chinas is recessive, the original hybrids are once blooming like their European parent. Only with successive crosses between the hybrids did the breeders achieve roses that expressed the recessive gene. Shailer's Provence is considered the first Hybrid China rose to enter commerce, in the late 1790s. (Gregg Lowery has a fantastic presentation on Hybrid Chinas.)

I agree with you phasedweasel. If this one wasn't everywhere you look I think I'd be much more enthralled with it. Mine was my first rose bush purchase and while I'd never see the need to buy another one I'm glad I have one in my garden. It rewards me with lots of blooms and little effort on my part. I'm still glad I have it. brittie - that's interesting because here all I find are the hot pink ones. I've never seen a red one here while shopping. Walmart, Earl May, Costco, Menards, Home Depot, Lowes... they're all the pink ones. Even my local nursery I shop at only carried hot pink, the single and double bloom KOs. Maybe it's location based.

sorry about the long wait..... I meant to say I believe it to be " Falling in love" sadly the plant died in the winter, but it was very thorny, and had a light scent to it. The plant grew to about 4 ft and the flowers were single large and had lighter pink under the petals. They were very large roses, about 4-5 inches across, and full with many petals.
