I made a lasagna bed-using my compost!!

I just made a very small lasagna bed, maybe 3x3. I am going to plant late season tomatoes in it when the time comes, I think Aug.

Anyway, I put down some newspaper, and then put some dirt on top. Wet it all down. Then I added some peat moss that I had laying around, then some leaf mold. I didn't have enough of the leaf mold, so I went over to the compost bin, opened up the sliding door, and took some out. Dark, rich color that smells like manure, complete with white bugs that look like worms. Put some of that on top, followed by palm fronds I cut off my palm when pruning it. Then I put on a layer of pine needles.

Now, what do I put on top? Newspaper, then compost and keep repeating? How high would an optimal lasagna bed be, or does it not matter? And do I water after every addition?

I am excited about my compost, and the prospect of having a good bed to plant in!!

Thanks in advance!!
