If you can stand it, remove and crush the beetles. They leave a trail for other beetles to visit so you should look in the same places for infestation. You could carry a container with soapy water and place them in that. I've found that the catbirds and other birds eat the beetles I've crushed and left on the ground. The beetles particularly like certain plants. If those plants are grown in afternoon sun, they will attract more beetles than those growing in a shady site in afternoon when beetles are the most active. Roses, azaleas, crape myrtle, Oenothera, Gaura and some Clematis attract them here.

I have had this problem too! But here in Southern Ca it is gophers. I have tried smoke bombs and water, it helped for a little while but they came back and they can really do some damage. I had a whole bed of rinochulas (sp?) and those gophers thought I had planted them their own salad bar! Everyday the whole plant would just disappear, just like in the cartoons. It started getting comical, like the Caddy Shack movie. Then someone told me that if you plant Society Garlic they will leave the area because they don't like the smell or the taste, so that is what I have done, I have planted them everywhere around my roses and so far so good. Time will tell but I REALLY hope this works.

Liquid Fence has a high degree of rain resistance and does not need to be reapplied after each rain, at least it doesn't if it's deer you're trying to repel. The label states that it's effective against deer and rabbits. My experience has been that to deter rabbits one has to spray much more frequently, whether it rains or not. If I had only rabbits to deal with I think I'd conclude that spraying isn't worth the trouble. I've rarely had rabbit damage on my mature roses, but they play havoc with many other garden plants. The density of the rabbit population in my neighborhood seems to vary dramatically from year to year. When the population levels are high, the amount of damage they can do overnight is mind-blowing. If I had to choose between having only a deer problem or only a rabbit problem, I'd agree to keep the deer around. No contest there, IMHO.

I introduced knockout roses to my garden last year. Wow, what a treat. Okay, here's my problem, something is eating my knockouts. It looks as though some one took scissors and cut the buds off the tops. There is no indication that deers are the culprit. I am in a suburban subdivision and have not seen a deer in my yard the 30 years I have been here. Could they be night visitors? Aside from the nipped buds, my darlings are healthy. I also looked for worms. Although I have lots of rabbits and squirrels, the knockouts are out of their reach because of the height. HELP.
