Just coming by to say Hello

Hey all you WS'rs out there, its been some time since I have posted on here, but since I started learing from Trudi 11 years back, I just wanted to pop in and say Hi from time to time.

I haven't started yet, just pure laziness on my part, but will be doing quite a few this year. After 11 years it seems my poppies have some what fizzled out and its time to WS more.

A big hello to all.

Hello Alberta!!

This is my 2nd year, and I am truly addicted with 111 containers already on deck, and many many more to go (just hoping the weather will cool off and cooperate)

Hi Alberta!! Good to hear from you again. This is my 3rd year to winter sow and my 96 containers are lined up on the breezeway like soldiers. I created a spreadsheet listing all my seed types and marked the ones that need cold stratification. Most of those are done. I'll wait a bit for the weather to decide what it's going to do before I start on the rest.

Hi Rick, very small garden here ... less than 150 sq. ft. A third of that is flowers and herbs, so there's not much room for tomatoes and peppers. Still have chard and dill from the fall garden, but I'll need to pull more of that to squeeze in a few more tomatoes. We started the garden about 20 years ago using the square foot method. After that first year abandoned some of Mel's guidelines and set our own. You quickly learn what works and what doesn't. Hope to completely redo the garden next year. Make it a little bigger with wider paths and different shaped beds. Al, sounds like you have a nice variety. I start my tomatoes & peppers on top of the fridge then move them to the cold frame. Oh Nora, what a great surprise hearing from you!!! i agree things change and you must go on, i'm again on the blue side and have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, i just have no energy and just doing day to day things are a stuggle for me. i know just how you feel taking plastic off of your Mom's swing. Although different i went into our backyard garden, which is where we laid our Buddy to rest, how he loved to plow and sit in that garden with me!! i put a cement angle on top of grave and must have cried for a good 2 hours, i just never thought losing a pet would affect me so much and so hard. on a happier note, if you can call it that - lol we have no snow! it's actually 48 out right now so for us its hot out! Carley has only 39 days left of high school, and i have been busy sewing her grad gown, which is flowy and has alot of tule on the botton half, she saw the dress in a prom mag, and on e-bay and also in a wedding store window here, so wouldn't you believe that one of the pattern companies makes the dress too, so for 4.87 for the pattern at W---mart (yes we have them too!) and 2.99 for the tule at the Sal. army and 1.99 for the satin there as well i got off really well, it seems that almost all of girls went to duluth to get their dresses or are having them made, actually it's not cool to get a ready made dress this year. i'm doing lunch for Matthew this afternoon, he wants to come home so bad, but with having him stay over some weekends i do not see a change in him that i would like to see, the family he lives with thinks he's just great so again he just gets to lounge around and get waited on hand and foot, so when the change comes the door is open for him. Al had a mind heart attack last tuesday, to stubburn to go to the hospital he just took baby aspirin and nitro spray, he said that's all they can do for him at the hospital so why bother? - men!!! However, he has been outside 2 times this past week, so that is real good news! LEt's hope that we hear from some more of you out there and find out how your winter was, how you're doing, we need some good stuff! i also think of everyone alot and welcome to all our new family members! enjoy the sun shining on your face! debbie

Y'all are so very sweet. Yes,it has been painful to relive so many wonderful memories of our precious daughter, but it's also been a good thing. I kind of had a meltdown sitting in her closet last night as I was going through her things and reading letters that people wrote to her. We put many of them in the coffin with her. Her room and closet is pretty much the same as it was when she left us. We haven't needed it, so I have just left it as it was. The name of the book is "Christin, Forever 19" We are about half way finished now and would like to get it printed by April 5 which is Christin's heaven date. It's great to hear from all of you again. So many kind people here. I LOVE to look at all of your pictures when I can. Take care! Will try to come back again before too long. Hi..you are right NZ is beautiful (thanks for the compliment) and NZers are a bit slow otherwise they would have already replied by now! You may have seen a lot of NZ on the "Two Towers" albeit digitally enhansed. We do get a bit sick of hobbits who are always getting in our way though.LOL I live in Taranaki on the Western side of NZ. At the moment we have Tom Cruise living in splendour up the coast about 10 miles while he films "The Last Samurai". I own a nursery and have chickens and fruit trees, dogs and zillions of heirloom tomatoes thanks to you guys on the US forum. You have to remember that the US $ is almost double ours so you could come over here and live like royalty. Regards Glenn in NZ

I haven't started wintersowing yet, either. Maybe today. But I do have to watch football too. I'm counting on seeing the Steelers win :-)

Happy New Year to you! I know what you mean about poppys needing to be rejuvinated every couple of years with some fresh plants. I'm also going to be wsing more of them this year than last.

Alberta was a mentor for me when I first starter WSing, gave me my very first containers (some of those salad/spinach boxes are still going strong!!!)

Hi Alberta, great to know you're still here, I hope you have better Lawn Guys this time around LOL. I remember when you wrote that they destroyed your poppies...not a good thing. I hope to do a verrrry limited amount of WSing this year, I can only handle planting in tubs now, but I can't seem to stop wanting to get my hands into the dirt! Do we ever out-grow this addiction?

No, we never out grow this addiction, LOL. @Donn and Nancy...this weather is crazy, LOL. Its one of the reasons I haven't even started WS yet. @Karen...I had to watch the Giants the other day, now lets see what happens with them in Greenbay, LOL. @Bakemom...waving to you from LI.

Hi Alberta!!! I came back to the forum a couple of weeks ago, too. This is my fourth year WSing. Some names are more familiar to me, some not so much, but I love meeting new people across the ethernet! I wish you much success and continued fun in your WSing. :)

Hi, back at ya. I will be ws poppies this year again also as cleaned out my old bed last spring resulting in no self sown poppies from the year before and direct sowing never works for me.

@Karen - you've been around since 2004? Doesn 't seem like I remember you that long .... time does fly!

2001 was my first year.

Yes, for me its been 11 years, where has time gone to? Yes Trudi we still look good, LOL, my photo on f/b was taken last year with hubby, son, daughter in law, and dl's mom and her boyfriend while we were on a cruise. I went blonde for a year (and yes its true blondes do have more fun, LOL) we had a great time on that cruise too!!

I love watching the newbies that come here yearly, and can't believe that WS works, and once they realize how simple it is, and then they stay around and help the others, like all of us did.
