Lowe's 4th of July Sales

Lowe's advertised perennials at 3/$10, but when we got there

we found better 'bargains'---Spirea Neon Pink in 1 Gallon for $1.75, 3-Gallon Buddleia for $4.75 and Acapulco Agastache in 2.5 qts. for $4.49. Already had the perennials they had on sale.

Moved to 'Heart of VA' last July and started a new garden bed along 75' of back fence. Wow, is this 'red clay' something else to work with! I've been incorporating stone dust left over from building a patio to get some drainage, as well as lots of decomposed leaves from last fall.

Everything bought at great discounts last year (Russian Sage, Plumbago, Artemesia, and Chocolate Eupatorium) returned this Spring, much to my surprise.

One thing I find unusual down here---Local Nurseries stock very few perennials, and not too many folks even bother putting any kind of flowers around their homes. Crepe Myrtles are everywhere, and the lawns are huge. Does anyone know why this might be? Too hot for gardening or is it a 'Virginia' thing?
