Bought a 445 JD

Never had a John Deere before, I need to redo my ole 1855MF and now I got a tractor to take it's place while I got it tore down. I've always been a Massey Ferguson lover as far as garden tractors, got three I'm useing now, but I've been wanting to try a JD to see what all the hype is about and I think I made a good deal on this one. Might make a mount for the JD to put my Johnson workhorse FEL on it. Thinking out loud there, I won't go get it till the later part of Sept. Just won the bidding last night but I'm already getting anxious to try it out. It'll have to be a good one, can't help but compare it to my ole 1855MF which has taken everything I've thrown at it.

Congrats. An excellent tractor. Hope she does exactly what you hope she will. How many hours and did it have a 3PH or rear pto?

Well I have had several JD's over the years My first was a JD R70 Rider then JD240 tractor then a 425 with a 44 loader and rear PTO driven Tiller and now I have a X485 with a 45 loader and many attachments as well as a JD140H3 and a new addition a JD 112 and sevral Cubs and a few others. The 445 is a great tractor only thing to watch out for is the JD445's made prior to 1995 the had a plastic cam which has had a several faluires in it but Kawasaki smartend up and fixed the problem other then that they are great tractor and work horse. I move alot of dirt with my 425 But I wanted EFI so I upgrade to a X485 in 2003 for my primary work horse. Kwick-way loader company even make a backhoe for the JD445. It will fill the gap for your Massey until you get it back up and running. So does the 445 have a 3point on it and a rear PTO. The tractor is great for earth moving chores so I think you should make a mount for your johnson loader. enjoy your new Tractor.

It will be the hose leading FROM the tank TO the fuel injector body. If the hose in question does in fact have leakage inside the fuel tank, there will be no pressure in the hose. You need to find a diagram describing which hose is connected to the pump, or you "might" be able to shine a flashlight into the tank to see the pump and hose for positive ID. The pressure is supposed to be "held" in the line by the fuel pressure regulator valve. The "pressure regulator valve" is situated in the "return to tank" circuit of the fuel system piping. The pressure regulator maintains a "head of fuel pressure" in the side of the fuel plumbing where the injector(s) are. This pressure is what "shoots fuel" out the injector nozzle during injection. If the pressure hose leaks right back into the tank from the line on the pump, you have lost both pressure at the injector, and volume of fuel as well. The symptoms could even mimic a clogged fuel filter or a pressure regulator valve that is stuck open, or has a defective "pressure spring". It is always a good idea to wear safety "goggles" of face shield whenever you work on fuel systems. Even if you don't get sprayed, a splash in the eye is painful and/or harmful. ervie, RE: Benefits of the liquid cooled vs. air cooled engines What I have learned with the liquid cooled engine is it maintains a more consistent running temp vs. the air cooled engine. Benefits are running in summer and winters. When you run a liquid cooled engine it stays with in a givne temp range for longer period of time vs. the air cooled engine. The benefit in the winter is... when you shut down for break or what ever the case may be, then start up again, engine temp is still up and you wont do the same damange to the internal engine parts that occurs with cold starts. With air cooled engine, over time with winter use, air cooled engines can get engine cracks or gasket failures with the snow/slush coming into contact with the hot engine. Just what I have learned. If I get the x520, time will tell if the extra $ was worth it.

You've probably got a short to ground in the harness. The tiller likely shakes things up enough for it to short out. You could try wiggling the harness by hand to see if you can find the bad spot (fuse will blow). Look under the fenderdeck, as the wires can get pinched there. Adding the rear PTO also causes the dealer to install an extra harness and module in the harness under the dash (near the circuit board). Make sure nothing got shoved in and cut by a bolt or sharp edge.

I'm not sure how he cleans the radiators, rod it out was what we always used to say, guess my age is showing. I'm getting the tractor from the original owner, has all the owners manuels and maintance records. It's just that when I buy something used I like to give it a good checking out and do all prevetive maintance first, then put it to work. Peace of mind for me. The three point hitch came in for it the other day and I haven't even got the tractor yet!

It's a 1998 model 1067 hrs, has all the owners manuels and maintance records. Does not have the rear pto or three point hitch but I'll add those myself, already checked with the local dealer, both available as an add on kit. I've got a back-hoe for my ole 1855, probably could be adopted to the JD--don't know, MF red back-hoe on a green John Deere! The guy bought a new 790 JD and said he really doesn't use the 445 anymore so was selling it. I'd thought a lot about just buying a new tractor, almost did, but this way I'll end up with two tractors for less than one new one. Like I need another one, got three MF's I'm useing now and one in a million pieces for rebuilding but what the heck it's only money and you can't take it with you! I've owned four older Cubs but like the earlier JD's they were dash control hydro or manuel and once I got a foot pedal control hydro I wouldn't have anything else, especially for FEL work which I do a lot of. I guess time will tell how JD green and I get along!

Great tractor, and nice looking too (that matters to me, ha:) Wish I had one, maybe someday...

I turned one down for $3500 cause I prefer a 455-want the diesel.

I looked at and test drove a 455, did not like the diesel, I really wanted the liquid cooled Kaw v-twin instead. I think they're pretty much the same tractor other wise.
