Odd, two roses in same hole as one plant ?!

I bought a few own root "Pink Iceberg Rose" from a local nursery. There are two/three canes in each one gallon pot. I first though they are "community pot". After talked to nursery, they say that's the way they always do - it should be planted (treated) as one plant. They don't have full grown one for me to see, but they are so confident about it. Iceberg is not exactly small bush, although it is usually 3-4 feet tall, I have seen 6 feet tall ones. What will happen to those? Will they be fighting with each other for nutrition? Will they grow smaller and bushier? Anyone has similar experience?
