IMHO, after using it for a little while with cuttings, a dying red tip, front lawn and even in my compost tea: 1) They need a new ad campaign.....or at least stop hiring from the "Weekly World News" staff :) 2) It helps with cuttings some.....just don't expect miracles. 3) It doesn't do squat in any other situation and there is probably a cheaper alternative.....although why not just spen $10 every 3-4 years rather than look for an alternative. Personally, I can't help but wonder if the added attention to the dying plants helps more than the actual stuff in the bottle. I made really sure to include superthrive and since it was fun thinking I was doing something, it made me stick to a tighter schedule. I heard an Indian tale that if you have a backache, go find a certain type of stone and it will cure it. It's not the stone that cured your backache.....its the exercise and stretching (and taking your mind off of it) while you are looking that is the REAL cure. Again....before you blast me....this is all MY opinion.

I used Superthrive several years ago, didn't notice anything too dramatic (but, to be honest I didn't use it consistently either). Last year I was in Lowe's and I noticed the display and kind of got sucked in by it's claims again, but this time I decided to experiment. I took two cuttings from a jade plant and two cuttings from a wormwood plant,I put all the cuttings in water (separately) for about an hour before planting them. I used Superthrive in the water of one jade cutting and one wormwood cutting.I then continued to water the Superthrive cuttings with Superthrive water and just plain water for the other two. The bottom line is the Superthrive jade developed roots sooner than the other jade and it also grew new leaves and branched sooner. Neither of the wormwood cuttings rooted, but, I thought it was interesting that at the begining I put all the cuttings outside (so they could get some natural light)and It got a lot hotter than I expected and by the time I brought them in both wormwood cuttings had wilted,so I watered them and after about a half hour the Superthrive cutting had completely revived, while the other cutting was still wilted. Eventually it perked up a little,but it never completely revived like the other one. Anyway, that's my two-cents worth.

jblaschke, I've just tried it with one cutting this afternoon. I'm without root tone until Friday, but am going to try my experiment anyway. I also changed the 'soil" to sharp sand with less peat. thanks Karen. I'll give your instructions a try. eight months is a long time, for sure. I was really surprised to see all white when I cut the stem. Maybe would have been better if I just left it with the callous so I could pot it right away? Anyway, it's cut. Just have to find a good place to order Superthrive from, that won't kill me on shipping. don't know if you are allowed to make suggestion or not, but if so, please do. Hadn't thought about cactus soil--was going by Plumeria 101 with the advice there of 2 to 1 perlite/peat. Glad to know that I'm not the only one whose had a problem getting a cutting to root. --hope I can save the leaves. I just couldn't figure out what I have been doing wrong: clean water, spray-n-gro, heating pad, lots of light--and nothing at all. It seems like water-rooting would get things going the quickest. But for some plants it must be the other way around. I gave up on diffenbachia--every cutting rooted. I had over 20 plants. I couldn't stop the things--water root, soil root, soilless medium--(I confess, I do have 1 left, but it's sort of in cold storage), all for plants that did nothing. Oh, I did get some of them to bloom. You do not want to do that. Unless you want rotten meat (fragrance) that attracts lots of insects. Thought a Plumeria, will be more than worth the trouble. Much nicer match for the little Orange tree I have in the living room. I just don't seem to have much luck with the exotics though. I have a Madagascar Jasmine, which I've grown from seed. It took six months for it to germinate. It's still going strong after seven years, but narry a blossom. I wonder if there are male/female jasmines? Some don't have flowers? --All this long, long vine and not even one, tiny white flower. --Being originally from the South, I miss the sweet flowers, esp. the Jasmine. Anyway, thanks for telling me what you did to save your Plumi. If you know of a good source for the Superthrive as well as to get cuttings, please let me know. Bob T.
