Poor Zepherine I almost killed her

When I planted her in December, I knew there was a good chance that there would be a problem. In the spot where I planted her,

I sank to my knees in slushy mud when it hadn't rained in 4 days. I really think that there is an underground stream where I planted this rose. I think that all the water from the nearby slopes channel right to the spot where the zeph is planted. I have to plant her there if I want her to grow up onto the arbor. So, this weekend, I gathered up my guts and energy, and built "it" -A 24" square 8" high concrete footing, with a 12" dia. 2' tall concrete pier laced with rebar. I sunk this monster 2'-6" into the soil.

I have a 2' wide (tapers to 16" at the bottom) x 2' tall pot. The pot goes on the pier. The Zeph goes in the pot.

Will Zeph get very big in a pot? Will Zeph survive the traumatic experience of being waterlogged for 6 months. She has a moderate amount of black spot, small stilted flowers, deformed leaves, and hardly any Spring growth.

I knew this would happen.

I blame myself
