It won't spread to other plants, and it won't spread to other roses, unless you've got 'em growing together in the same hole.

In a month, you won't know it was there.

I hope that you are at least going to try to get your money back. Is Dutch Gardens a local nursery? When you tell them that they sold you a rose with RMV don't be surprised if they don't know what you are talking about.

No, it's not a local nursery, but if roses mail order give me so much trouble I am thinking of going local next year! If you go to dutchgardens.com you will notice that they don't say where they are located or give an address! I should have known better :(

Concerning whether a rose virus can spread to other plants.

PNRSV is considered the most common rose virus in the U.S.

It is found in many plants.

The link below gives a complete reviewed scientific published paper that determined whether PNRSV extracted from roses could infect peaches. On page 90 the following appears: "Whereas all of the 27 rose PNRSV isolates used here were able to infect R. indica cv. CE10 and peach cv. GF305 plants, ...."

R. indica is a rose rootstock so it does not answer the question about "other plants" but the peach qualifies as "other plants".

You need to get all the fleshy roots out. They can stay alive and send up shoots. There is a slight chance of a root-graft forming with roots of a new rose planted there. But I don't think of the soil being infected. I have planted lots of roses in spots where infected plants grew, and I will do so next week.

*** Not all mail order nurseries are bad -- don't judge the whole industry by one bad apple.

OTOH, if you are determined to avoid virused roses, you'd be wise to deal with nurseries which specifically provide virus-free stock.

Oh, Jeri I'm sorry I didn't mean ALL mail order nurseries. I should have been more specific! Just Dutch Gardens! I have had great roses from pickering and, believe it or not, Jackson and Perkins!

Anyways, here's another pic of my problem. Looks like RMV to me. Maybe others have another opinion, though.

Sure -- It's RMV.
The question is, what to do about it. (Consider that it is quite possible that the rose may not be available in a "clean" form.)

If it were in my garden, it would stay where it is as long as it performed well.
I'd prefer a rose clear of virus, but I'll take it virused, if that's all there is. YMMV.
