need help with compost pile plans

I currently have a compost tumbler that is not really producing the results I want. I decided that this fall I will be getting rid of the bin and making a compost pile in an area of my yard that is currently landscaped.

I have two choices...I can cut down the shrubs next to my shed and have my pile there, or I can remove the perennials behind my garden, level the surrounding ground, and shorten the curve in the mulch line to end just before the garden.

Any advice for placement of my compost pile and layout ideas would be appreciated. I'm trying to keep it elegant looking so that it will blend in nicely with my landscape. Pre-made structures are certainly an option but I don't know anything about them. I kind of wish I lived in a more natural looking environment where I didn't have to care about aesthetics, but it is what it is.
