Compost heats ,then cools quickly. Need advice.

You folks were very helpful about a month back when I couldn't get my pile to heat up. It's my first attempt at"hot composting". I rebuilt my pile into one built with 4'x4' pallets. I added alfalfa pellets as no grass clippings were yet available. I never got it above 100-110 degrees. It has reduced in size by about 1/2 (now about 15" deep) but there is still lots of "undigested" material. I turned and added some clippings the other day and it quickly warmed up, but is back to being cool again. Our weather has been cool and fairly wet.

Does it a--need more greens (I have lots of clippings)

b--let it dry out a little

c--heap it so it's higher in the center

d-- just be happy with a cool pile which is what I've always done. Creating a hot pile was something I wanted to try this year.

Thanks for any suggestions.
