i received a partial order (lily bulbs) last week. the bare roots are suppose to arrive may 29 - they sent me the tracking information.

You could contact your credit card company and ask them to help you cancel the order. Since J&P has not responded to your comminications, you have good reason to cancel if you want to.

I received mine yesterday. Actually, they are replacement. But both original and replacement are just junk.

Don't get me wrong, 90% of my roses are bought directly from JP last year and early this year. All wonderfully green canes and huge root system. Then I ordered from their sale BOGO free Tree Roses. Everyone came covered in mildew or other fungus. The top of all main canes are black all the way to the bud unions. It is so bad that I will not buy from them again. I will drive to Reagan and pick what I want next year.

wantton, I had the same experience as you. I received some roses a few weeks ago and some had very bad canker. Surprisingly, those are doing ok. But another one didn't make it and I've emailed them twice about a replacement and they haven't responded......

I was underwhelmed with roses received from them last year; even in their second season they are not performing as they should. Sounds like things have gone further downhill. Hope you will post about your experience on Garden Watchdog. Many still feel that Jackson & Perkins are the gold standard in roses-- the power of the brand, I guess. I feel wistful when I see Our Lady of Guadelupe photos, she's just my kinda floribunda. But I wouldn't deal with J&P again, period.

I did a news google search when I read kygirls post, and I couldn't find anything new ...i.e. about a resale.
I also did an Oregon Business search.
The only thing I found was a mention from the 2007 Bear Creek sells J&P sites was that the final part of the sale would happen in early June 2008.
It sounds as if that may have happened a bit early.

Complain to the new owners. And do it nicely with citations, but don't give up. They bought the company name and its customers and they have, with that purchase, a responsibility to meet contracts.

I went a bit crazy and ordered 14 from the BOGO sale (6) Beloved and (8) Voluptuous on 5/11. They billed my card on 5/13 and were to be delivered 5/28. Thankfully, I came to my senses on 5/16 and cancelled the (8) Voluptuous. I still wanted to try the Beloved since they're supposed to thrive in my zone. My card was credited for the cancelled portion 5/19.

I arrived home late yesterday to a nice box from J&P. I was too tired to get'em soaking last night, so I figured a few more hour's wont hurt.

I picked up the box this morning with a`quick thought of... "this thing is a bit heavy for 6 plants". I opened the box and saw the plants were top quality big bright green canes with nice big root systems. I started pulling the plants out one by one to their soaking container and after the 3rd one I thought, "I'm not making a dent in this box of plants". Being of keen-wit at 6:00am I finally realized they shipped the cancelled portion too!

So, my friends will now enjoy free roses, courtesy of the new owners of J&P's inept I.T. department.

I wish I had remotely same problem as you. My roses came all fungusy and near death. The replacements was even in worse shape than the new. I always sang their praises, but no more. I am done. I will make a trip to Reagan and choose the healthy plant from them rather than pay shipping and handling and get junk at the end.

I finally received a confirmation that they've received my email. And it came from Bear Creek. So that's who we are dealing with now.

I still haven't received my roses from my May 11 order and the worst part is they billed my credit card on May 11 for the full $383. That is wrong. They aren't supposed to bill until they ship something.

I will never buy from them again. Every time I try to reach customer service it's a 3-4 day process before anyone can tell me anything and then, what they say is a lie. They keep giving me new ship dates and then those ship dates don't happen and then I get a new ship date and that doesn't happen, either. We tried to get a manager on the phone with customer service the other day but they said all the managers were busy.

I tried to cancel the order but they said it's too late and that all I can do is refuse the order when it's delivered. I'm afraid if I do that, and it's lost, I'll never get my $383 on my card back. And that means I have to be here when the delivery guy comes. I don't know if that will happen.

This is beyond awful. It's way too hot to plant bareroots now. It's 90-plus this week in Kentucky.

I looked up the details on the sale, too. It's not a new sale, it's the April 2007 sale when Harry & David sold Jackson & Perkins to Donald and Glenda Hachenberger in Florida. Chas Fox is the new president, he was previously with Park Seeds. The new J&P is affiliated with Parks/Wayside. The marketing and shipping end of the business was still managed by J&P until May 20 this year. It was originally scheduled to go until June, but obviously the new owners took over a bit earlier than planned.

It's so ridiculous. Someone posted on Dave's Garden's watchdog site that they're mismanaged that it's as if the new owners won the company in a poker game last weekend or something instead of having 13 months to prepare for the finalization of the sale.

They've definitely lost a customer with me and I will tell everyone I know to stay away, too.

Call your credit card company and tell them what happened.
Tell them you don't want the plants any more because they lied about when they would be delivered, and now you just want your money back.
Your account will most likely be credited.

I still haven't heard anything from J&P. It's getting beyond ridiculous. It's June 8 and it's 92 degrees in Kentucky. It's way too late to plant anything here.

Change credit card company. If they will not work for you then send them on their way. Most card company want your busness and will work with you to keep it. I use American Express, they work with you and will credit your account while they check out the problem.

Send your credit card company a copy of the email you sent to J&P....also, provide them with documentation of dates and names of people you spoke to on the phone....I hope you were documenting....that should be sufficient proof that you tried to cancel the order with plenty of notice before shipping....If you still haven't received your roses or a credit, fire off another email AND call (getting the rep's name) advising them you previously cancelled the order, you have NOT received the roses from them because you did cancel the order, yet your card has been charged....demand a credit back to your card for the amount charged immediately or within a reasonable, but short period of time...tell them it is costing you Interest on something you didn't receive.....Document, document, document......

I cancelled an order about 2 weeks ago with the new owner's rep...I did it this way: Call Mon-Fri...Get the name of the person you are speaking to and write it down...repeat her name back to her so she knows you have her name....then, ask for the Tracking number of your shipment and the exact delivery date....when they tell you there isn't one, ask her if the shipping label has been printed yet....if she says no, the order has not been picked & packaged yet and you can still cancel....if she tells you she can't or the system won't let her cancel the order, tell her you want to speak to a Supervisor right now who can figure out how to do it...if she says no, tell her you have called several times to cancel this order, you do not want the roses because they exceeded the time for planting in your area and you are not paying for dead roses due to their company problems or switchover...tell her you have been documenting everything and you have advised your credit card of problems with their company...

Tell her your credit card company asked you to try again to cancel before they have to get involved and deduct their Vendor Account while they open a complaint investigation about their company (cross your fingers behind your back if this tactic bothers you...lol)...this dialogue usually gets their attention and lets them know you mean business....Thank the young lady for trying to help you and tell her you understand if she can't do it, but needs to get a Supervisor to help you....but, bottom line--you don't want the roses now and you aren't paying for them because they took too long.

I ordered first of May and they didn't come until after June 10th...which is late to plant..but..I got nice roots and canes and so far they are growing really well. I think I contacted the BBB on this one and next thing I knew I had my roses without further ado.

I am also very disappointed. This summer alone I have gone through 2 PJP II, 1 golden celebration and 1 princess diana. All dead and no activity upon arrival.

I ordered two wild blue Yonder bushes from them. I ordered at end of April, and they came about six weeks later. Onof them looked good. the other looked like a reject from Walmart. It had one huge cane, and three tiny black diseased canes. I wrote to them, but, of course, no response.

The one that looked healthy is doing fair, the other one (with one preexisting cane) has put out a couple of healthy appearing canes.

I will never buy from them again.

I wrote to the FTC last week about them because when I ordered they charged me more than 12% in sales tax and their shipping charge and fuel charge were higher than their own chart. When I called to complain (thank Heavens I did not hit the purchase button) the rep told me to complain to my State Legislature and kept telling me that even when I brought up the inconsistent shipping and fuel charges. So I decided to write a letter to the FTC with documentation. We'll see what happens.

Another decent vendor bites the dust. Really too bad.

I had ordered roses from them in the past and they were good quality. Excellent customer service too.

Last year I ordered a collection of 3 tree peonies, 1 each of pink, white, and pink/white. They were all labeled differently with the correct names.

They bloomed for the first time this year, and they are all pink, all the same. I was upset as I wanted the 3 different types for variation, not 3 of the same exact tree peony. I phoned J&P customer service and the rep was very unhelpful, said there was nothing she could do about it, esp. since my order was over a year old. I explained to her that how was I to know they were all the same color until they bloomed? I was actually surprised they bloomed this year, I was expecting to have to wait another year before they bloomed. The rep told me to call back "in a few weeks" after their "transition" and maybe someone could help me then.

The olog trees I got buy 1 get one are in full bloom and doing great. (this was after the sale)

All the roses I got from them earlier in the year are doing great too. Sorry you had problems barbara (we are in the same area so zone is not an issue). This year I got from them.

My OLOG trees are doing well, but the other roses I ordered are not. All I get from J&P is emails on their new sales. They have not responded to my email about dead roses, except they acknowledged they received it.

I do think they had a rough harvest this year. Even the DA roses I got from Tyler Texas had some canker on them and I've already lost one (even though they looked fantastic when I go them).

But I will be wary about buying from them in the future.

When I ordered from the HD sale that was posted here, I got fabulous J&P roses, and got them fast. I ordered the test panel roses from J & P and they got here fast and healthy. Then I ordered from Wayside on June 6, and the guy who took my order thanked me for calling and ordering from Jackson and Perkins. Huh? Oops, he said, we just bought J & P and I take orders for both. I asked if the roses were coming from Wayside in S. Carolina or from J & P in California. He said we have them here in S. Carolina, and we'll send them to you in a week and a half. I called today, and they said the roses won't be shipped until June 30, and they are coming from..you guessed it...California (in this heat?) and will be from J & P. They also deleted part of my order, item no longer carried. Their transition isn't going so well because both companies are losing customers now. I don't understand why they advertised so heavily when they can't fulfill the orders, and they are going to end up refunding so many of them. You would think they would assign an employee to at least communicate with customers about the delays. From a business perspective, I think they would have been better off to compost the excess stock than to alienate so many customers when they can't deliver healthy goods. People don't remember the good price they got on something, they remember long delays, lack of communication, fried plants, bad information. That's sure not going to make them come back next year willing to pay full price.

the roses finally arrived earlier this week. they were sitting in my driveway when I came home. so, in 90-plus degree temps, we planted bare root roses. I'm sure that at least half of them will die. But we can't get anywhere with J&P to get a refund. they said the only way to get a refund would be to refuse the order. But it was sent with no signature required, so we weren't expecting the order (nearly two months after placing it!) and weren't here to refuse it.

Some of them have white fungus and black mold on them. It's so frustrating and so ridiculous that they're treating customers like this. The customer service people are a total joke. They know nothing and cannot help me. When I ask for a supervisor, they say they're busy and can't come to the phone. Nor will they pass along a message.

I ordered the roses on May 11 and received them on June 25. Is that nuts or what?

I hope they go bankrupt very fast. With this kind of terrible service, it hopefully won't take too long.

This is a ripoff. The card company can remove the charge for you, and it sounds like it should be done.

I ordered on line a month and a half ago and never got confirmation of my order. So I called and ordered on June 4th and was told they would ship directly. I'm STILL waiting. Phone calls were useless. They told me I'd have to refuse the order. I work, so I'm not going to be home, so how can I refuse it?

As far as I'm concerned the only J&P roses I will ever buy again are from a local nursery and be in full bloom. The new owners are idiots and I refuse to deal with them.
