My soil sample results
Comments (4)Good day daylilydude. Forget about the raised beds. I would package that stuff up into 1 pound bags and sell it to the locals as Magical Miracle Plant Elixir, or some such. Seriously, pH is on the high side. You may need to do some experimenting to see what does and doesn't grow. My guess is corn will be happy (with extra N). At that pH, uptake of metals (like iron and manganese) is going to be a challenge for your plants....See MoreThe uselessness of high phosphorus levels
Comments (5)It has been shown that reducing nitrogen while maintaining other nutrient levels can initiate blooming, but I've never seen any evidence that excess phosphorus stimulates anything in plants. This seems to be a long held myth among growers. In the first link I provided, a fertilizer company's own CEO stated that their bloom booster formula is made because of consumer demand for it, not because of any scientific evidence of its usefulness. "...It is simpler to give the market what they think they need than to try to reeducate it." Of course people are free to use whatever they feel is best. I just like to see people looking at the evidence rather than looking at what others do. That's how myths get perpetuated....See MoreHigh Nutrient levels
Comments (1)A soil test kit from your neighborhood garden center? If the soils pH is near neutral, leaning alkaline, why would you need to add Calcium? And which, calcitic or dolomitic, Calcium would you add? And how much would be needed? How soon after adding the compost and manure did you test? Was that material well mixed in the soil or was that mostly what you tested? I would till that soil really well and talk with the people at my local state universities Cooperative Extension Service about having a good, reliable soil test done. The report you get from that should tell you about your soils Calcium and Magnesium ratio and if any is needed which Calcium and/or Magnesium source to use and how much....See MoreHigh Cholesterol and high potassium
Comments (1)Have his doctor set him up with a nutritionist. I'm surprised his doctor didn't put him on cholesterol meds or recommend he see a nutritionist. This is a hard problem because a lot of things like certain fruits and veggies that will lower cholesterol are high in potassium and being celiac he can't eat things like oat bran to lower cholesterol. There is no magic food and the services of a nutritionist are needed to get this under control....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
