Any good roses for hillside ground cover?

I have a fairly steep hillside behind my house of compacted hardpan clay, with western facing exposure that is basically baked all summer long. There are several volunteer Bay Laurels and creeping vinca planted over the decades, but there is a wide barren patch we have never dealt with.

I am just starting to learn about how to incorporate roses into my landscaping, and I saw at the nursery something called a "groundcover rose"... a low creeping rose. Someone there also mentioned to me the "highway roses"... that you can basically neglect and never have to prune.

Can anyone recommend some good options for my climate for very low growing or mounding roses that I can put up on that hillside and essentially ignore. The slope is too steep to have anything there that I would have to get to for maintenance.

I don't even know if this category of rose even exists in the antique rose category... so I may repost this over in the Rose forum, too.

Thanks,

KMama
