I'm familiar with P. Harvest and the last three.

All repeat well. Prairie Harvest and Winter Sunset are very prolific.

Hawkeye Belle flowers hold well (except when they rot in the cool rain, which they always do here). PH, WS, and PS blow fairly quickly, WS especially. If lasting flowers are an issue, again I would recommend Mother of Pearl, which has all the virtues of Buck roses but lasts exceptionally well.

HB is blackspot-resistant in some gardens but quite susceptible in many others; it depends on what strains of fungus show up. PS has somewhat above-average resistance and should be OK in Iowa, but it does not have the hybrid tea form you asked for. It is also a slow grower. PH and WH are highly resistant to blackspot.

It's usually a mistake to generalize about rose varieties because so many variables are involved. Roses that perform superbly in one locale can be real dogs in another.

Of the many roses in my garden, the one that absolutely stands out as the healthiest, most disease resistant is Buck's 'Golden Unicorn'. It has large, beautiful foliage and is a heavy producer all season long. When heat levels get high, however, the flowers fade in color and blow very quickly. To keep the plant looking neat in my zone (& to prevent its large hips from forming), I need to deadhead it frequently. Perhaps the individual flowers would last longer in your milder climate.

My Prairie Star died the first winter so I would not recommend it. Prairie Sunrise was OK for a few years and then suddenly died. Two Buck roses that are very hardy in my garden are Quietness and Prairie Breeze. Quietness gives you lots of beautiful full pink blooms and does not die back in the winter. Prairie Breeze also does not die back and the blooms are HUGE. Honeysweet is another desirable rose but it dies back to the ground in winter and doesn't get very big. Silver Shadows is a strongly fragrant Buck hybrid tea that also dies back in winter. Protect your roses with hardware cloth if rabbits are a problem. They have killed many a new rose in my garden (they love tender young plants) and bite off the canes of "hardy" roses in the winter.

Prairie Star and Prairie Harvest are disease free (as foliage goes) here in coastal NC but one of them balled terribly when we got a sudden rain (sorry, don't remember which one). It is possible that it was not the rain but very dry winds or sudden thrips attack - in any case from a moment to another it turned to an ugly brown paper ball.
Winter sunset as Michael mentioned last longer as cut flower than on the bush; it is very beautiful when it starts opening but blows fast on the bush if bloom left there. Maybe in a colder climate it would last longer.

Here in the south, I am told, Earth song, a grandiflora, is one of the best and the most productive - healthy, has a gazillion of flowers, gives good and fragrant cut flowers and holds on to its flowers on the bush as well. It does not mean though that it will behave the same way in Iowa.

I love, love, love Quietness; it is pale pink. Simply gorgeous and smells very good. My smaller plants already gave me so many flowers that it was just amazing. Huge, many petaled blooms, supposedly good for cutting, too.

I have Prairie sunrise. It was my first Buck rose, is a small rose even after 5 or 6 years. It is still under 3 or 3 and 1/2'. Not very productive in my opinion and here it gets blackspot. Too bad because I planted in a bed where I do not spray any other rose so this rose does not get sprayed either. Very beautiful though, I love the colors. And maybe in your climate it stays clean. (But, let me emphasize again, it is my smallest Buck rose.) PH or PS close to it has clean foliage and on the other side Quietness is also clean.

Folksinger is a good repeater and it is apricot (my favorite color) , has clean foliage but the flowers blow fast but repeats fast.

Many people love Golden Unicorn, I have one in pot but not in the ground; relatively new acquisition from Chamlee's.

Have no personal experience of Hawkeye Belle; my understanding is that it performs better in cooler climate.

I have all the roses you listed except Prairie Harvest. I concur with what others have said about these roses. I think my best Buck rose is Bright Melody. Huge shrub, healthy, blooms all the time. Dorcas is a close 2nd - gorgeous pinkish hybrid tea blooms. Do Si Do, Malaguena are other good ones. I have quite a few more I have just planted this year - I adore the color on Honeysweet and Frontier Twirl. Weak bushes for me are Silver Shadows, Prairie Sunset, Sunbonnet Sue. Quietness is a giant and blooms lots, I also love Prairie Breeze. Carefree Beauty is an old favorite. Polonaise is new and seems to be healthy, blooms well. Winter Sunset is gorgeous when in full bloom, but they blow fast, as does Prairie Sunrise, but both are simply gorgeous when in bloom. Habanera is another pretty color, new for me this year and growing well. I have alot of them that are new.....so will be able to comment more next year.

Buck roses were developed and hybridized by Dr. Griffith Buck for the midwest zone you are in. They are remontant, thatis, will bloom in flushes throughout the blooming season. They tend to be able to handle the harsh, hot summers, and cold winters of your area. They are not one-time bloomers. They are also disease resistant, and you should be very happy with them. We grow several here in our Memorial Garden, and they are almost constantly in bloom.

My Earthsong has a harder time bouncing back every year.

I do agree that Buck roses are designed for your area, and should survive the winters. But here in Tulsa, Ok, many of the Buck roses will not survive my spray free garden.

I used to have 6 Prairie Star roses in a horse shoe shape around my front bed. They not only got black spot, but totally defoliated, and remained bare without leaves. They required spray as did Prairie Sunset and Sunrise.

There was a nursery confusion with Honeysweet and Frontier Twirl. They went through a couple of names, so possibly in the mix, I had a different rose. But this is the best list I can come up with.

We really have problems with black spot here, but surviving the winter is not usually a problem. Dr. Buck was more concerned with winter survival than black spot (I think), and the black spot as a problem could be worse here than in Iowa.

At one time it was difficult to find a non virused Buck rose. I do not know how much this has changed. From my experienced with a non virused and a virused form of Carefree Beauty in a zone 5 garden, I would expect that in a northern garden it would make a big difference. Because of the roses' temperature dependent immune sysyem, I would expect the difference to be much smaller in southern gardens.

I would like to see controlled research on the effect of viruses on the ability of a rose to defend itself against blackspot. I would "guess" that a virused rose would be more likely to get blackspot but the few individual reports that I have seen from members of rose groups do not support this "guess".

I grow all of the Bucks you listed, plus Quietness and Joseph Lamb. Of them, the best for me are Quietness and Prairie Sunrise. They have been such great re-bloomers and so disease resistant for me that I've bought a second of each one, which are doing equally well. Golden Unicorn is a great re-bloomer and also disease resistant but its blooms shatter much more quickly than Prairie Sunrise or Quietness. Hawkeye Belle is a lovely pink but tends to ball in heavy wet weather. Folksinger is another great rose, although it is one of the few in my garden that occasionally gets powdery mildew (perhaps where I have it?). Here's Quietness and Prairie Sunrise:

Karen's post is one you should pay attention to since you are both in zone 5.The climate in zone 7 is far different from zone 5.
