Poision Ivy cure

This may be old news to some, but I feel I must pass this along for fellow sufferers...Ivy Dry cures Poision Ivy!!! Yipee!!!

Mine was so bad for the last 8 years I've had to take cortisone shots and it still made me miserable for weeks...every year getting worse until by luck one day at a quilt shop someone told my about Ivy Dry. You can get it at IvyDry.com or ask your pharmacist and they may stock it for you. Also, My experience has been the products that say, "good as IvyDry" AREN'T. I have to have the real thing, not an imitation.

Today, the lady at the pharmacy told me, "everyone swears by this stuf" and also, they sell it out quickly.

Just wanted to pass along, so you might not have to suffer as long as I did.

I'll try to remember that. Was itching just before I read this. To my knowledge, I've never had it. My parents thought a blister on my leg was that and I think it was calamine lotion then, but I'm not sure it was that now.

All I remember, but there are probably many varieties, is that there are three leaves, ovate, non-serrated and shiny, sometimes curl a bit and are pendulous. But I pulled some stuff the other day, then a kid was here w/his Dad and were worried about it. This was a lighter green, I didn't think it was PI but told him not to touch it. I pulled some with my bare hands the other day and came right in and washed with soap.

You can think you have never had the weed, don't think I ever have, but it flies in and there it is. The OP must have had a terrible, systemic allergic reaction to it. My ex got in awful shape when he was in the Army with poison oak, was off for a month, wasn't getting better so I insisted he go back to the doctor. It finally went away, don't know how.

Reaction to either PI or PO tends to be inherited genetically, but you can't always be sure.

Hi maypoplaurel. Thanks .^^ I went to a park near by on saturday.Removed hairly roots and scrape off bark if any urushioil flow.Once poision ivy develope leaves, poision ivy produce more sap. I am going to talk with park ranger during week day about poision ivy and my need. Also taking photo of poision ivy and non poisness vine to educate children as well adults. Nobody asked, but in the absence of Fels Naptha (brown soap of yore) Tecnu is excellent for removing the oil from skin. It takes time to cleanse, cleanse, cleanse and rinse but I've not had PI in the years since I used it. I consider it among the first line first aid products. I was cutting back huge overgrown rhodies for a client, and my arms were all scratched. Must have encountered PI, and got it into the scratches. Virtually innoculated myself with poison. Finally had the Doc had to pull out the big guns just so I could sleep. Bad memory

I've found several effective ways to deal with even infestations from hell. One is a mixture of Safer Soap and Neem Oil, applied via a pump-up time garden sprayer. It has enough pressure and the handle gan be rotated so I can spray the tops and bottoms of plants. The last time they got real bad, anytime I would see one aphid, I would spray every plant. These were seedlings, so I didn't use all that much spray, but if you let one live, the next day you will have 1,000. Another concoction I read about and tried was boiling tomato leaves and mixing it with water. It certainly eradicated the buggers but I made it a bit too strong and burnt some leaves. No long term damage but I was sweating it for a few days. Sprinkling garlic powder on the soil helps, especially after a Safer Soap/Neem Oil watering. A few years ago, a bunch of peppers I was overwintering got a horrible infestation. Did the above and never say another aphid the entire winter. Last but not least - one can order Lady Bugs, no matter what time of the year it is. I read (and then followed) the idea of spraying them with a weak mixture of Coke (the drink, not the drug) and water, which helps keep them from flying. Released them on my plants and watched them grow fat. One thing is certain - you have to take aphid and similar insect infestations serious. Let that one aphid go for two days, you can be looking at thousands of those nasty bugs in a couple of days. Mike

I would also assume that it is legal in PA, but you can always check with your cooperative extension and see what they say. You mentioned that your slope is southfacing, so I assume that it gets sun. That should make it easier than a shady site to get something to grow. I am probably not the best expert, but what about forsythia bushes? The one I have in my backyard is prolific without being uncontrollable and I think would be deeply rooted enough to help stabilize the slope. Also I would think that they would be fairly inexpensive and common at the big box stores so that you could get a bunch in without breaking the bank. My other thought was some low growing evergreen bushes. I have some on my sunny slope and they are doing quite well. For the shaded portion of my slope I am looking at planting some hydrangeas (once I get the ivy out) and maybe some ferns. Litrope would also be a good choice and is sold at the box stores. I would consider digging it up now while it is not completely established and not out of control. Like a misplaced tree, it will just get to be a bigger proble to solve later if it is left to flourish now. Plus I would expect to find it establishing other places in your yard (far from where it is planted) and becoming a problem in many spots. Last, I know that in my english ivy is where the poison ivy starts. I only have poison ivy where the English Ivy is and that is a bigger problem! I wonder whether it will work on chigger and tick bites...they've been horrible this year!

Thanks for the tip, Michelle! I got a horrible case of poison ivy a few years ago and used Zanfel. It is expensive but WORKS. It looks like Ivy Dry isn't so pricey!

Robert, I don't think anything works chigger bites. When I remember to do it, I take my bath towel and rub where I think I might have chigger bites. That is about all I know of to do - get them before they go too far. By the time we see the bump, we just have to live through it.

For Chigger bites, my DH says at his work they would put sulphur powder around the bottoms of your pants and tops of socks and around your belt/waist area. This is where they go first. If you already have been bitten, put CLEAR finger nail polish on them. It stops the itching and kills the eggs. The sulphur powder should be available at a pharmacy.
