Tree choice for Ocean Front?

I am trying to decide on a small 10'-12' tree for my 12' x 30' planting area in front of my house. It is an ocean front site and my previous choice, Olive trees, couldn't take the salt laden wind & soil. I am now considering Melaleuca Nesophilia & it's cousin Callistemon- Cane's Hybrid, Leptosporum Laevigatum & Petersonii and also some Acacia varieties. I like the appearance and lack of stiffness in many of the Acacia's but the ones that seem like they will work for me in terms of size are really more bushes. I like the Acacia iteaphylla - Willow Acacia and also the Acacia Boormanii- Snowy River Wattle. Could I prune them to expose their trunks and eliminate their fullness of leaves at the bottom. Any advice as to whether this would work? Can they be pruned into multi-stemmed trees?

Here is my Pinterest page with my trees I am considering. Any commentary would be appreciated! Thanks! http://pinterest.com/ktmessina/trees/
