The JM should put out new leaves...as well as the crepe myrtles (they will bloom). The azaleas will not bloom if the buds are damaged but will make more foliage. The bradford pears will be fine (although i don't like those things too much). They will all be fine next season. They are longlived plants so they are accustomed to late frosts. This has happened before in the area, but just not for a few years and those trees are still alive. Wait a few weeks for the new foliage to come back. The new rains should help with the regeneration b/c the dry cold winds sure sucked the moisture out of them.

Water if the ground gets dry, and resist the temptation to "help" things along with a good dose of fertilizer - it won't help!

If, after a month, there are obvious dead branches, and if you can safely reach them, then you can prune them out. Cut back to a larger diameter branch, to the trunk or to a bud or shoot growing in the direction you want the plant to grow. Don't cut to leave a stub, and keep your tools sharp and clean.

Almost all of us in the East are waiting it out to see what damage our plants have sustained. I only hope the HIGH winds I am getting, yesterday and today, won't do any damage if they rip off frosted leaves and branches - gusts of up to 60 mph (although more into the mountains), and winds of 20-40 mph are forecast, and here!
