Some newbie ?s on teas and thrips

Sorry if this has been asked before but the search function doesn't seem to want to work for me today. I'm newish to roses, started with some shrubs last year with no problems. This spring I planted several own-root teas including Mons. Tillier, Mrs BR Cant, Mme Antoine Mari, Mrs Dudley Cross, and Duchesse de Brabant. I've been having a terrible time with thrips and ended up pruning off most buds in a feeble attempt to disrupt their breeding cycle. They seem to have subsided somewhat but now that everything is blooming, the flowers only last for a day at most before shattering. Is this normal for teas in zone 7 or is continued thrip terrorism to blame? The foliage is clean, I don't spray, and all the fertilizer they've gotten is a tiny bit of rose tone and some watered down fish emulsion.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
