difficult chainsaw

I have a relatively new Craftsman 42cc 18" saw that binds up in anything but small wood. It cuts on a severe curve rather than straight through a log, so that the chain apparently is forced sideways against the wood. I have to resort to making all my large cuts with the end of the bar.

It's the kind of pattern you might expect if only one side of the chain was ctting, but I've played with sharpening one side of the chain more than the other to see if I could make it cut straight, with no success. Even though the bar seemed perfectly flat, I also tried replacing it--no help. When I swapped my Echo's 14" bar and chain onto this saw I got perfectly good cuts (but destroyed the chain fairly quickly).

I've owned several saws but never had an experience like this that doesn't seem traceable to engine, bar or chain. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
